Isn't "Our Day Will Come" one of the most beautiful creations on earth? I listen to the oldies station in the car, and whenever they play it, it takes my breath away. I kinda want to spring for their double-disc best-of, even though I know next to nothing about their other stuff. And, just a hunch, but was "Our Day Will Come" a big song in Jamaica? Does anyone know? Did Jamaican bands cover it? It's possible I msy have heard a ska version or something, and it's in my subconscious somewhere. So, maybe it's more than a hunch. The original reminds me of those rhythms. So, anyone like any of their other songs? anyone? You can also talk about your fave early 60's soul/R&B crossover hits here too if you want.

I love the organ on this.

And I adore "Easier Said Than Done" by the Essex.

Yeah, the organist is right outta the skating rink on this one. It's the only thing I know by them and it's one of those songs that I will always enjoy.

I've probably put this song on fifty mixes and I can't think of a time I've ever not wanted to hear it.

Ruby & the Romantics were pretty fine in general - there's a great double CD of stuff by them out there and I like nearly all of it. I've got about 1/3 of my music collection imported into lossless files on many terabytes of hard drive space, but so far only three other versions of this song have "turned up," none by JA artists, despite about 1000 CDs worth of Jamaican music included thus far. However, I know the Heptones did a version. The other versions I have are by Chris Montez (too mellow), the Spiral Starecase (not bad), and We Five (interesting). I've got versions by the 4 Seasons and Isaac Hayes too that I haven't heard in a while.

Reo, check your mail.

None of the other versions I've heard can touch Ruby and the Romantics' take on the song. Nancy Wilson's is nice, but a little too gentle. The Heptone is breezy, but not nearly as breezy as Ruby's. Christina Aguilera's version is an abomination.

Surprisingly, I sort of like Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass' version, though.

nine months pass...
Does anyone know where I can get "Our Day Will Come" by itself. I love the song but don't want to buy a whole album for one song. Thanks.
