Killing Joke Remasters

So i just picked up promos of the new extended remastered versions of "Pandemonium" & "Democracy".While perhaps odd choices for remastering from the KJ catalog they sound great.I'm very fond of this era of the band because they came to Dallas,Tx like 3 years in a row & were always magnificent. The albums always felt very epic & spacious to me.Loved the arabic influence. While on the subject i wish KJ would pull a Gang of Four & go back & rerecord some of those 80's albums with todays studio expertise. This band deserves a BIG sound. So bring on the remasters of the rest of their stuff.
And the best thing is they keep making new albums. In fact i might prefer their last 4 albums to their first 4.Hersesy i know!!
By the way the xtra cuts on the disc are very long ambient & dub remixes of album cuts.

How sonically diefferent are the new records? If they're much 'better' I might have to re-buy the first few.

"killing joke more like gay homos"

Oh no! Not gay homos!

Homos are bad enough but gay homos are the very worst kind imaginable!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 7 July 2005 09:20 (twenty years ago)

Straight homos are worser.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 7 July 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, and what about all them gay heteros, eh?

Send 'em all back to Russia, the bastards.

They're probably responsible for all the bombs that have been going off all over London.

they are more like remixes than renasters.Kinda disturbing really.I mean they sound great & all but the overall "feel" is different.Or hey m,aybe it was always suppoded to sound like this.Anyway i find it disoriented by the change.

If we're talking about the Cooking Vinyl remasters, I'd have to opine that in the case of both Pandemonium and Democracy (or collectively Pandemocracy as we like to refer to them), the only way was up. Personally, I found the orignal mix of Pandemonium to be needlessly busy and samey, and even the band roundly denounces the production of Democracy. Granted, there's only so much you can do to improve them when you're simply re-mastering, but I found they cleaned them both up nicely and am pretty pleased with the end results (though neither is a particular favorite of mine in comparison to other Killing Joke albums)).

Why don't you step on up and make me, ass monkey.

By the way, it's JAZ not Jez.

[ADMIN] ignore it plz Alex, it'll be gone in a minute, generally.

two months pass...
I picked up the remasters for Revelations and What's THIS For.. recently.

Revelations? FUCKING AMAZING! it's like listening to a new album. They did a great job here.. more bass in the bass, more bass in the drums.. just a much clearer more succinct mix over all. The album had always sounded a bit tinny and muddled, until now.

What's THIS For..? FUCKING ASS! They took their best album and ruined it via the remaster here. It's like they played the EG CD through a cheap boombox and accidentally overmodulated it. WTF?

So, the score is 1/1 so far. Can't wait to see how the others fare.
