I realize that none of you care, but he is. Between converge's last album, and the remix job he did on the two converge reissues, and that beecher reissue i got this year, and that gospel album, and that transistor transistor album, and the new swarm of the lotus, did i forget anything?, man oh man, all that shit sounds so fuckin' good to me. okay, that's it. i'm done.

How are those Converge reissues? Haven't listened to either of those albums in years.

Did he record "Semen of the Sun"?

no tech! (ex machina), Thursday, 7 July 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

they are things of beauty made even more beauty-full.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 7 July 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

did he? i dunno. it's a black dice thing, no?

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 7 July 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

I don't think he produced that, judging by the sound. I was under the impression that even in their hardcore days Black Dice operated in an "artier" (for lack of a better word) scene than did the Converge/Hydrahead crowd.

the latest converge is really boring. 'jane doe' was teh awesome though.

latebloomer: the Clonus Horror (latebloomer), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

Shit yeah, Kurtis Blow rocks.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

I don't know man, I liked a few of the tracks off the new one and I really liked the sound of it (especially the guitars). But yeah, Jane Doe was far better than the new one or any of the old ones.

- (smile), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

yeah, perhaps 'boring' was overstating it. still, just more of the same ol' same ol'.

latebloomer: the Clonus Horror (latebloomer), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

I hear that.

- (smile), Thursday, 7 July 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

i liked it. i didn't listen to it as much as jane doe, but i dug it. i played it today. one of the few records i've heard in the last few years that i actually think is too short! and i didn't think it was the same old thing either.

Some of those people definitely produced some of their stuff!

scott: I think because Converge made such big leaps from album to album (Petitioning's no-rules metalcore to WFCC's sludge to Jane Doe's grindy mania) that because it took so long for the new one to come out (which I think was due to label problems?) it seemed like they hadn't progressed at the rate they were before. I'm sort of guilty of this. They're really one of the only (if not the only) beacon of light in that scene these days.

Jon: You're probably right. Never knew they intermingled. Aren't you from those parts?

- (smile), Thursday, 7 July 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

Yea, I don't have my vinyl records with me to check that out but there was (and is) definitely an overlap in the FT scene between hardcore and "noise". Seems less acurate now. But I mean have you heard Old Man Gloom -- Converge / Cave In sideproject that is kind of NOIZ?

no tech! (ex machina), Thursday, 7 July 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

Also, Cave In's "Until Your Heart" stops is a must listen. Its nothing like the later stuff in terms of song structures although there is pretty singing. I believe Kurt Ballou produced it.

I KNEW this was a Scott Seward thread!

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Thursday, 7 July 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

Fuck yeah. Until Your Heart Stops has been one of my favorites for years. Metalcore gets PROGGY. I've been skipping out on Old Man Gloom for a long time, I suppose I'll give it a listen.

I forget which record is good.

Also I believe Kurt produced the last Orchid record:
http://www.ebullition.com/images/covers/EB51.jpg

which is SICK.

And also the weird varied noise metal Orchid spin off - Bucket Full of Teeth:

http://www.cleanplate.com/bucketfullofteeth/

Some mp3s there... I never heard the stuff past the first 3 7 inches (collected on 1 cd) but those rule.

no tech! (ex machina), Friday, 8 July 2005 00:12 (twenty years ago)

Saw that one in the record store the other day. Never cared for Orchid's old stuff. Gave me this bad You & I but "grindier" sort of taste in my mouth, but that may be attributable to age/lack of listening at that point.

- (smile), Friday, 8 July 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

The last Orchid album had some really sonicly interesting production and subtle synths mixed into the noiz
