I gotta say, this is a fucking good album. I'm not a big Pumpkins fan at all, and I ended up with this album after reading that one Vice article about all the albums you claim to like vs. the ones you really like. This album encapsulates golden sunlight coming through your window in the evening. Very poignant.

I was just talking about this with someone. "Be Strong Now" is just a perfect little breezy California pop song - unashamedly sentimental and beautifully arranged.

I had this and it got stolen when I was burgled. One of my most missed albums.

three years pass...

I think its time for ILM to talk about Tinted Windows, the new power-pop supergroup(!?) consisting of James Iha, Adam Schlesinger, Bun E. Carlos, and, yes, Taylor Hanson (THAT Taylor Hanson). Haven't heard the lead single yet, but who. This has potential to be a major trainwreck, but Schlesinger and Carlos have been involved in some truly outstanding power-pop at one time or another. So maybe not so bad?

Not sure what happened between my second and third sentences up there.

Wow: I remember an old roommate listening to the Iha album a bit, and it always just seemed like kind of middling nice-day folky stuff from a guy who rather enjoyed the Cure.

Was Schlesinger involved in the Iha solo record, somehow? Or maybe it was just on his label...

Schlesinger played piano on a couple tracks and maybe bass on another, if I remember correctly. Don't know if he was credited as a songwriter on any of them.

That's exactly what it is. And it's more listenable than the deep end Billy C.'s wallowing in these days.

Ned speaks the truth. It's a pleasant, breezy disc.

Yeah, yeah, I don't have a complaint with it -- I just never thought of it as something anyone would really love, you know? I always figured it was the sort of pleasant/so-so disc various people would have on the bottom shelf of the CD rack. It's cool to see that there's actual enthusiasm about it -- there must be depths I was missing

nabisco, Friday, 27 February 2009 21:02 (seventeen years ago)

Oh I wouldn't call myself enthusiastic about the album, its just... there. I don't mind it when its playing, but I don't think I've actually reached for it in years.

I really like the Vanessa & The O's album that Iha was a part of. Totally derivative French concept-pop-art, but very well done.

that band lineup makes sense, i can remember bitching that i thought 'let it come down' sounded like hanson when it came out

"Sound of Love" is a good song.

'lover, lover' is excellent
