Hey Josh, how's the album!?

(Columbia)
Great name, and just wait until you hear the album. You'll want to "Shake," "Bounce" and "Bounce (Bounce)" with these six young stars of BET's unscripted "Blowin' Up! Fatty Koo." But don't get the wrong idea. All but one of the Koo, ages 15 to 20, met each other in Columbus, Ohio, long before the show, on board the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, where they wrote and recorded together.
The final piece of the puzzle joined later, bringing a soulful helping of gospel, r&b and hip-hop to add to an appealing mix of funk flavors ("Fatty Koo"), soaring operatic vocals ("H.O.F.K.") and deep house grooves ("Tight").
Think Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys and Usher all rolled into one. Of course, not everything here is Fatty phat - "Chills" is a track far too icy for a group destined to be hot.

After giving audiences a taste of what was to come on its BET reality show, "Blowin' Up!: Fatty Koo," it's time for the Ohio-based quintet to prove that it really has what it takes for the big time. One quick listen to "House of Fatty Koo" showcases soaring vocals and catchy, radio-friendly beats. Unfortunately, closer scrutiny reveals cookie-cutter lyrics that fail to help the group live up to its potential. On opener "Shake," it boasts of popping Cristal and buying out the bar—even though four members are under 21. If they're not talking about drinking their little hearts out, they seem to be obsessed with girls bouncing and shaking their fatty koos. It's when they step away from the partying that the act begins to shine, like on the beautiful "Chills." —Ivory M. Jones
