Jamiroquai: He's back, and he's hipped to this myspace thing (and he's not looking too well).

The song on his page, which I assume is the single, is not great, not terrible. Well-produced, but the hook is unmemorable. Sounds like second-tier Beck meets second-tier Lenny Kravitz. And the world really didn't need another song with that drum beat. I like the way it starts out with that oddball vocal sample that doesn't immediately suggest a direction for the song -- sort of like Daftindirekt. Only not that good.

No, I take it back. It's pretty terrible.

Dude, maybe you ought to get into better shape before you take your comeback photo. Or at least get a good night's sleep.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 10 July 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that song is not so good.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

I don't think the song is all that terrible! It's not mindblowing.. but yeah, the profile pic could have been.. well, more. haha.

Lidell even might be soon wearing a better hat. Once that happens, it's over.

donut e- (donut), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

that made me laugh.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

he's got his finger on the pulse if he's writing songs about televangelists.

Funny that a bunch of ugly, overweight nerds who write about music and talk about it 24/7 on the Internet should be making fun of how Jamiroquai looks.

brinker mcdougal, Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

Stop projecting, fatty

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Why do you run? I love you with my great open arms.

Jimmy Mod Is Sick of Being The Best At Everything (ModJ), Monday, 11 July 2005 04:20 (twenty years ago)

It is a question of why this minstrel, whom it seems wishes to be a court jester but one who pilots sporting cars made in the Papal States, does bother with music that is dance yet watered-down with water, then to embrass oneself with this "MySpace" bother.

Translated: 'Why is this guy such a douche?'

Jimmy Mod Is Sick of Being The Best At Everything (ModJ), Monday, 11 July 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

It sort of looks like a promo-shot for a Tony Kushner play.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 11 July 2005 04:41 (twenty years ago)

That second pic makes him look sort of like Spencer!!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 11 July 2005 05:10 (twenty years ago)

the hat can't be good or bad.. it's just beyond nuts to be on a good/bad scale.

donut e- (donut), Monday, 11 July 2005 05:16 (twenty years ago)

i think a jamiroquai record i won at some high school dance or something was one of the two or three records i wasn't able to sell *or* give away after months of trying. eventually it went in the trash. i don't think i ever listened to it.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 11 July 2005 05:37 (twenty years ago)

from AMG: But Jamiroquai refused to be known as simply a party band; the group takes on social issues such as homelessness and Native Americans' rights.

Great!!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Monday, 11 July 2005 05:39 (twenty years ago)

It's about fucking time somebody did.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 11 July 2005 05:40 (twenty years ago)

From day one Kay’s had an opinion and he hasn’t been afraid to share it. Sadly his impassioned sleeve notes to Jamiroquai’s aptly titled 1993 No.1 debut, ‘Emergency On Planet Earth’ still ring true. Third world poverty; climate change; wars initiated by power hungry dictators; it’s all there.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 11 July 2005 05:41 (twenty years ago)

Keep on making the wisecracks guys.

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Monday, 11 July 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

I must admit, I did forget about Mr. Kay and his grouping's concerns for the homeless and the Native American populations. It is indeed touching to see a man who owns many a sporting automobile from Italia continue to have a common touch with the great unwashed. Hurrah, hurrah for Mr. Kay!

Esteban P. Buttez Esq., Monday, 11 July 2005 10:32 (twenty years ago)

you should actually say "tut tut" in your tut-tuts from now on...

kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 11 July 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

yeah, the only one i've heard is return of the space cowboy, but i listened to that a lot when it came out.

it really does!

Not only was Grammy winning single ‘Virtual Insanity’ released on the day Dolly the Sheep was born, its concerns mirror those currently consuming the debate on human cloning and ‘donor’ babies.

And did you know that the video for the song, featuring lightweight, modular, easy-to-move furniture, premiered the day the first U.S. IKEA store opened in Elizabeth, New Jersey?
