That One Guy (That One Guy), Sunday, 10 July 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

if it sounds like manitoba then how can it be good?

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 10 July 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

you're not the only one waiting for an answer

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 10 July 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

god knows i heard the hype but after one listen i ain't convinced.

mark p (Mark P), Sunday, 10 July 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

i'm trying to YSI it but it's taking too long to upload.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Sunday, 10 July 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

It sounds not like four tet nor manitoba. no how.

Brad Laner (Brad Laner), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

let me correct myself...i was kind of thinking and typing way too fast in that first post.

it has the same feel as the new four tet and manitoba (caribou. whatever the hell you want to call him) albums. atleast to me it does.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

what i'm trying to say is that it has that warm groovy feel to it. if that makes any sense.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

TOG - if you get a chance to ysi it to us ungratefuls that'd be great.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

i'm trying to but it's taking way too long. does uploading to yousendit usually take this long on a cable connection?. or maybe it doesn't accept zip files?.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Sunday, 10 July 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

When is it being released?

Tokyo Ghost Stories (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Monday, 11 July 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

whenever i'd uploaded something i've zipped its taken forever (20 minutes). if its just one song try uploading upzipped.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 11 July 2005 00:32 (twenty years ago)

It's Kid's most festive and funky album yet, but tempered by the cerebral textures of PS I Love You. Parts of it remind me of Prince's "Erotic City" and Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke"--but fugged up, y'understand.

Trollerhonix (Da ve Segal), Monday, 11 July 2005 01:17 (twenty years ago)

You can tell he spent a lot of time on Resilience and that he's invested in it emotionally, much more so than in his last few albums (it seems to this listener who's been following Kid from the start). You might even say he's matured, but in a good way.

Trollerhonix (Da ve Segal), Monday, 11 July 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

i'm gonna try uploading it again.

That One Guy (That One Guy), Monday, 11 July 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

That One Guy (That One Guy), Monday, 11 July 2005 03:00 (twenty years ago)

a song or two is friendly enough, but you really shouldn't upload entire albums if they're in print. it's unfair.

milton parker (Jon L), Monday, 11 July 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

Fo a moment there, I thought the new Kid 606 was called Holy Fucktards!!

Kim Tortoise, Monday, 11 July 2005 12:23 (twenty years ago)

Down With The Enemy is the only Kid 606 album I've ever been able to listen to from start to finish. Good individual tracks on P.S. and Fucking Mentalist but as albums they lack a dimension. Can't say I'm panting with anticipation at him sounding like Four Tet or Manitoba.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 11 July 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I am...

He's a talented producer, I always find it interesting when people who have shown they're good with sounds have a go at writing in more conventional or different styles (windowlicker, soft pink truth, herberts big band, vladislav -> luomo)

Thoughts after hearing the first few tracks, looks like there is gonna be a lot of variation on this. That kick drum in phoenix riddim is making me feel good right now.

It sounds more composed rather than mashed like a lot of his other work, I predict this will be a problem for the rest of the album.

death of tom (death of tom), Monday, 11 July 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

the hooks are all a bit meh so far, and the rhymic motifs/cut ups just don't compare to say, prefuse or someone

death of tom (death of tom), Monday, 11 July 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

its not bad.

latebloomer: the Clonus Horror (latebloomer), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)
