I'm not trying to start shit, but who are these people who picked out these songs? I spend A LOT of time online looking at music related blogs and I don't know any of them. Are any of you on HERE?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 11 July 2005 02:30 (twenty years ago)

strng hlkngtn, Monday, 11 July 2005 02:32 (twenty years ago)

this is actually really weird. i guess i am always kind of bugged out when i realize there are whole OTHER circle jerks, with whole other sets of values, etc, out there in the "blog universe" other than the one i am engaged in. (though the annie thing leads me to believe there's a little bleed over between universes.)

There are music bloggers, and then there are music bloggers who participate or align themselves with blogcritics.org. That place is one-stop shopping for hackdom.

Gated communities are weird.

That includes this one.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

Hahaha! Dave, do you have people following you around 24/7 blasting "Freebird" like it was your theme music?

NO YOU CANNOT

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

(Who is Paul Wall?)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

If I'm not mistaken he's this white dude who made grills for the Houston scene, and had a mic and a record deal thrown in his hand when they realized the scene really needed a token goofy white dude so that the crossover market would have someone to adore. He needs to collabo with Lady Sovereign.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

I may not have my facts straight, but hey.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

btw ethan's list is terrif (and I've only overpraised 3 of those tracks, I rule)

I MAY NOT HAVE MY FACTS STRAIGHT is a mothertruckin' understatement.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

My aunt used to play "Memory" on the piano whenever she'd get near one back in the day. Even then, when i was twelve, it was pap. Little did I know what Andrew Lloyd Weber would contribute to the world later.

p.j. (Henry), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

I have a soft spot for "Memory".

Tom (Groke), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, I met the guy who runs Earvolution - I was on this panel thing a few months ago, and he dominated the whole thing, never shut up, just relentlessly lame. He was bragging about blogging live from a Sevendust show. He is also the guy behind that Blog Ads company.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

*insert erection joke here* (NB: I like "Memory", it's just that the phrase "soft spot" screams for an erection joke.)

Re: Ethan's list: It's funny because I out-and-out adore six of the songs on it, to the point where I could easily listen to them on repeat for the rest of my life (which is a good thing considering how overplayed some of them are). "Wait" is massively overrated, though, like to the point of ludicrousness. (For some reason I still haven't heard any of "Trapped In The Closet"; I don't know that Boston radio is playing it and I haven't been actively seeking it out.)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 July 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

I like Paul Wall! Because he is goofy.

I'm not sure that proves anything, considering there are so many fucking blogs out there now that you could probably find an equal number of rave reviews for Lean Cuisine Creamy Basil Chicken, too.

nb: I haven't heard "Sitting Sideways."

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 10:38 (twenty years ago)

nah ur right i just tht it wd be funny to google blog + paul wall and see what comes up!! but like every white rapper hes overrated by white folks and thanx to that & NYC's current houston dickriding you will find alot more references on blogs to sittin sidewayz than other south or regional rap singles

10. “Totally Wired” - The Fall

Trailblazing indie rock sacred cows the Fall are generally lauded as cooler than anybody. Well, 50,000 Fall fans can kiss my ass. Sure, Pavement's first album is a wholesale appropriation of the Fall's sound. But Pavement moved on to different sonic pastures on four subsequent records, while the Fall have recorded over forty albums of this annoying claptrap. If being the first band to combine stunted chops and speaking lyrics because you can't sing makes you unassailable musical pioneers, then bravo to the Fall.

Now I wanna do some violent crimes.

nicholas de jong (nicholas de jong), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 11:56 (twenty years ago)

Lean Cuisine Creamy Basil Chicken had a lot going for it at first, sure. But over time I was shocked as to how popular it got with a group of people that used to treat me poorly in high school. It's like, hey; that's MY Lean Cuisine Creamy Basil Chicken. But who listens to little, lowly, underpaid old me, eh? So over time, I've come to hate Lean Cuisine Creamy Basil Chicken. If she won't be mine, she'll be no one's, do you hear me? NO ONE'S.

Hi guys! Uao from Freeway Jam here. Glad our little article got such a good discussion started.

I just popped in to reassure you all, we are not all from CT. Not sure any of us are, in fact.

Best wishes;

Back in May the British selected "Bohemian Rhapsody" as their "favorite single of all time."

I like Paul Wall! Because he is goofy.

And for everything he's done for the internets.

And for rhyming "nuts" with "nuts".

worthymusic is absolutely killing me

"...and I at this point I'm beginning to wonder if another album will come along this year and overtake the top spot on my Most Worthy 2005 list... or if I should just go head and cement this one in that slot. It's going to be a tall order to surpass this one this year. Definitely the one to beat, in my humble opinion."

chrisco (chrisco), Thursday, 28 July 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Um, he rhymed "goin nuts" with "holdin my nuts."
