I was discussing the matter with Sir Issac Issacs and he has it on good authority that the Highland Band of Seattle will be performing at this fine event with bagpipes and highland dancing for one and all.

If even the special guests aren't all that, there's at least two great live shows to see here.

I think I'm going to this.. especially given the presence of FIELD ROAST, MY FAVORITE VEGAN MEAT ANALOG EVER!

the bands that play the capitol hill block party have a blackout clause in their contract (or maybe it's a handshake agreement. regardless, mudhoney had one in 2002). i'd look to it being one of them. i know it's not the presidents. removing them from the list, built to spill seems too big, and everyone else seems to small, so who knows.

Peter Trahms, Monday, 11 July 2005 06:25 (twenty years ago)

Damien Jurado or someone like that, I'm guessing...

donut e- (donut), Monday, 11 July 2005 06:30 (twenty years ago)

eh, it's $10.. bring on the field roast and the smoosh and the USE. That's worth it alone.

donut e- (donut), Monday, 11 July 2005 06:31 (twenty years ago)

smoosh must be some muso's kids?

william (william), Monday, 11 July 2005 07:16 (twenty years ago)

Lots of muso's are brethen of muso.

Smoosh are a great band. For a band that can actually get away with sounding "girlie" for obvious reasons, they sound far more mature and -- more importantly -- more interesting than lots of adult "girlie" bands... if that makes sense.

donut e- (donut), Monday, 11 July 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

I'll second the props for Smoosh. I wear their badge on my jacket, for what it's worth.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Monday, 11 July 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

I know who the secret guest is, but am sworn to secrecy. I will say that this band has a punctuation mark in its name.

Trollerhonix, Monday, 11 July 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

NEU! have reformed... in a back parking lot of a radio station in Seattle. History will be made.

jergins (jergins), Monday, 11 July 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

the go! team is in seattle on the 18th.hmmmmm. & sleater-kinney are back from their tour.

william (william), Monday, 11 July 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear lord, please let a dash count as punctuation in this case.

donut e- (donut), Monday, 11 July 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

(If it's the original Go Team with Calvin and Tobi, I'll genuinely be shocked though... not sure if they were the "Go!" Team though)

donuté (donut), Monday, 11 July 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

....well i await the reviews. bet it was hot as hell 8^)

drone/a/saur (william), Monday, 18 July 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

well, sure, hot enough for a Seattle heat stroke... i.e. "OMG what's this salty water coming out of my skin! AAAAAAAAH! That doesn't happen! It must be above 80F!!!!" (ok ok, suntan lotion was probably a good idea, granted, even with the lower UV index, but still.) I think Chicago was 10 times worse for hot weather, though.. more love for the Intonators in the form of cool breezes.

It was fun. It was worth it. No more, no less. Crooked Fingers, Smoosh and U.S.E. played shorter sets than expected.. (apparently U.S.E. were really caught off guard by it.. i think they were promised more time, and they were told to cut it shorter than promised.) But, for $10, you got a free meal and a beer, and you got a tour of the KEXP station. The in-between DJ was pretty awful though, and the sound mix was terrible.. but again, for the ticket price and free meal and beer, I'm not going to complain. It was a good excuse to go out and hang out, and I got to meet some people I never met before. *shrug*

MUCH Looking forward to the Capitol Hill Block Party in two weeks.

donut ferry (donut), Monday, 18 July 2005 06:01 (twenty years ago)

I'll say this though, while the new U.S.E. songs have proven to be great, Smoosh did a lot of previously unheard new songs as well, and I'm predicting that Smoosh's followup to She Like Electric is going to be amazing.. the new songs were definitely more intricate, complex, more dancey, more catchy than most of the debut album. More 4/4 kick drum.

donut ferry (donut), Monday, 18 July 2005 06:05 (twenty years ago)

(Also the Field Roast vegan sausages are AWESOME!.. and brand new, and hopefully coming to a store near you. I love the Tofurkey sausage lines, but these are going to kick the Tofurkey links' asses.. Vegan Smoked Apple Sausage? Vegan Mexican Chipotle Sausage? I am salivating!)

donut ferry (donut), Monday, 18 July 2005 06:09 (twenty years ago)

...so no special guest artist brian?

note to self to pop down to bellingham to grab the Vegan Smoked Apple Sausage? Vegan Mexican Chipotle Sausage? mmmmm.

drone/a/saur (william), Monday, 18 July 2005 06:24 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, haha, the special guest.. well, let's just say the dash is not considered punctation in this case. Everyone I knew left before they went on. shrug. A bit anticlimactic, as I think the abrupt ending to U.S.E.'s set kinda left people a bit.. cut off and dissatisfied? It's highly ironic that this move may have been done to roll the red carpet for the special guest, yet backfired in a not-so-minor way... or maybe people were just tired. I mean, U.S.E. got a far better reception even at the frat/sorority/yuppie clusterfudge that is the Fremont Oktoberfest...

Then again, a lot of people here were just low on energy.. despite KEXP doing a really good job in organizng things well as far as providing as much comfort as they could for the crowd in an uncovered parking lot. (No shortage of food or drink certainly.. at least before I left.) My only complaint was the sound mix and the in-between DJ, but the latter is just taste, and the former is just hard to do in an outdoor setting.

KEXP were really cool about the free studio tours.. and the DJs who were tour guides were really really cool. Kid Hops is one of the best people that station has.. and I hope they appreciate him. Kevin Cole, programming director, is also super nice as well... all of them are nice, in fact.

donut ferry (donut), Monday, 18 July 2005 07:13 (twenty years ago)

seventeen years pass...

KEXP pros~ Say Sue Me is playing in 15 mins in the NW Rooms...

Are those performances broadcasted live on the main channel?

Also I went to a NW Rooms show in person last month, how long do those take to come out for replay (via YouTube?)
