Does anyone else like this French reissue label, which seems to do a lot of different stuff, but specializes, as far as I can tell, in old French and Latin American music? I have a few that I like a lot, but I'm really happy with the latest one I got, Latin American Divas, Brésil, Mexique, Argentine, Cuba: 1926-1954

Actually there's no "American" in the title, it's just Latin Divas Brésil, Mexique, Argentine, Cuba 1926-1954

I like them a lot. They do a lot of early blues and country stuff as well. Their Rock N Roll series (1927-45 and then one for each year after, IIRC) is pretty cool, too.

I really want to get the one called Choro Samba Frevo

they have great collections, as matos says, but their remastering is way below the level of jsp or any of the major american reissue labels.

but some of the pre-war "world music" stuff is hard or impossible to find elsewhere. and the low-fi aspect can be kind of charming i'll admit.

That's pretty much what I am getting from them.

go for it!

i expected these things to be cheaper in france, but they weren't. boo.

they have a set of quebecois country music which is something to behold.

although it's actually a reissue of the same thing on a different label which appears to have been pressed in a run of about 100 one of which i found at a used bookstore in montreal. it has a neat cover illustration.

i have since found about 5 lps of old quebecois country music. most of it isn't terribly interesting except to hear french-canadian variations on familiar country-music tropes. although willie lamothe (sp?) is kind of awesome, and i like marcel martel's (sp?) train songs. he has a lot of them.
