Lost Classics: "Flowers and Beads" by Iron Butterfly

A couple of days ago I decided to get the "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" album and I was completely amazed on "Flowers and Beads".

I'm pretty sure I've heard it in a movie or something but it was just so weird how I had know idea about this song before.

What does everyone else think about it?

Yeah, I just listened to it and it's better than I realized. Bit of a sunshine pop classic.

Most anything that you want dear... well thats alright by me... except calling this song a "lost classic." I mean, all and all its not an awful song, but classic goes a bit too far. I WILL say it has brevity on its side, as compared to its album's namesake.

I think it's quite well written.

And has a good lead vocal.

"unconscious power" is their best song.

What album's that on? I've only ever owned Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida. I heard Ball once. Is it on the first album? I wouldn't mind hearing that.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 11 July 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

it's on heavy.

it's also on the soundtrack to the savage seven!

i love their Get Out My Life Woman (i love almost all verisons of that song though).

i djed an artshow and gygax showed up and i wanted to talk to him so i threw on Inna-gadda-da-vida to get 17minutes of freedom.

when i did college radio i would throw that on when i wanted to leave the station for a quick snack or a trip to the can.

Girls go to "the can"? Surely there's a male:sweat::female:perspire analog to this?

I like how Doug Ingle employed the just-write-one-moronic-verse-and-sing-it-three times lyrical technique (not just on "Flowers And Beads" but throughout the entire album) that would later serve Kurt Cobain so well on Bleach. In fact I've loved that whole LP for years. But the Fender Reverb tour-de-force "Iron Butterfly Theme" from their first LP is still my favourite.

A great moment indeed. I remember also a pretty good Lithium Xmas cover of this song.
I read on All Music that Metamorphosis has Iron Butterfly trying their hands at funk: is it worth a listen?

The first time I heard this was in the Biker movie "The Savage Seven".
Also, the bass player or guitarist ended up being a physicist. Supposedly, he found a way to transport matter from one place to another in seconds like on "Star Trek".

What a coincidence, kencoa. I had forgotten all about this song until I rented Tarantino's biker movie,"Hell Ride," last week. 'Unconsciouis Power' was featured in that, too. I guess bikers are into mind expanding drugs.

lol

seven years pass...

Checking out IB's 'Scorching Beauty' which was a reunion LP, there is a song called "People of the World" that has a demento repeating 70s cult/glam rock mantra "Making each day a little bit better" that would have to make people crazy after a few hours of repeated listening.
