a wide-ranging questions, but I wanna know. I've out the loop for a while.

No Vitalic style suggestions, please. More Ashley Beedle etc but what's hot now?

you_used_to@hold.me, Monday, 11 July 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

I haven't heard of any new good House music bands or artists in a while. I think the last Good Band/Artist was Felix the Housecat (I'm sure I mispelled he name).

I think everyone's gone to Glitch or Gleep Glop.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Monday, 11 July 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

Gleep Glop?

I'm listening to "Original Disco Motion" by Faze Action, "New Jersey Deep" by Black Science Orch and "London X-press" by X-press 2 and thinking of good times...

Hence, the question.

:)

fandango (fandango), Monday, 11 July 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, he's right.

I'd still rather be in Tokyo (nordicskilla), Monday, 11 July 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i have that... Plan B was on constant repeat last week.

I guess what I want is something more akin to that nuBrit House movement from around 1996.

you_used_to@hold.me, Monday, 11 July 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

Gleep Glop is the genre where they play music off of original Nintendo Gameboys

I think Malcolm McLaren is involved somehow by signing or managing some groups.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Monday, 11 July 2005 22:35 (twenty years ago)

and I guess before someone pipes in, yes: KOMPAKT

you_used_to@hold.me, Monday, 11 July 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

I guess what I want is something more akin to that nuBrit House movement from around 1996.

but tell me what you're enjoying

jed_ (jed), Monday, 11 July 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

The best house track this year is Ben Watt's "Pop a cap in yo' ass," methinks.

brittle-lemon, Tuesday, 12 July 2005 00:50 (twenty years ago)

experimental horse is wear it's at.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

have we already reached the end of the trend with experimental horse music?

seems like it never gets mentioned around here anymore.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

there's a new afroart compilation called "this is AFRO ART" that's pretty good if you like stripped-down latin drummy house. most of it is like capoeira at house rhythm, towards the 2nd half of the cd it turns towards david holmes-style 60s soul house cut-ups.

new compilations on MFF: "bad acid" and "see you at the party". sort of taking off from the classic Classic sound of derrick carter, luke solomon, etc but with more variation. jumpy rhythms, blippy noises, goofy monologues, tons of garage swing etc. always stylish.

uhhhh ... other than that ... markus enochson / GAMM are still killing it. dj heather put out a great mix for fabric, very bumping ... um ... what else ...

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 01:58 (twenty years ago)

luomo?

FUCK HIPSTER HOUSE.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

oh quiet you

strng hlkngtn, Tuesday, 12 July 2005 02:03 (twenty years ago)

oh c'mon vahid, luomo isn't merely "hipster house."
that being said, i find no reason to bring up luomo on a thread presumably about *current* house.

playhouse has been putting out lots of good stuff lately, much of it really deep and, well, surprisingly deep.

i'll second the buzzin' fly recommendation, but my choice is justin martin's "le boom."

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

name fucking song titles please!

dr dr, Tuesday, 12 July 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

Luomo's current for me...cos I listened to him just now!

I'd still rather be in Tokyo (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

If we're expanding this to mean "4 on the floor" kick drum stuff that's housey, but also tech-housey, minimal, etc. then my list of listenings lately is:

Titonton Duvante "Voyeurism" dbl 12" (2003 but I just got it)
John Tejada & Arian Leviste "Back for Basics" dbl 12"
Matthew Jonson "Put Your Booty Shorts On"
Human Body "Fucking Life EP"
In Flagranti "MelodyMaker"
and pretty much all the Circus Company stuff

and the oldies I'm rewindin' would be:

Phortune's "House Rights Fight For It"
Daniel Bell
Farley Jackmaster Funk retrospective CD
that "Love's Got Me High" track
Jungle Brothers "Girl I'll House You"

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

Phonique - For the Time Being

Reverso 68! Balearic revival!

Vahid I'm pleased to see you like See You @ The Party. I particularly love the Eclaat & Prudo track and the one before it near the end of the mix.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 07:15 (twenty years ago)

actually philip is spot-on with the playhouse recommendation. one of the best house-not-house albums of recent times = benny blanko's "8 ft in the air". it's up there with the best moodymann / theo parrish sides - totally raw, stoned, hazy, slapdash, percussive deep house vibeynesss.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 07:21 (twenty years ago)

ran shani-cool like that
chicken lips-sweet cow
ep3-an unnamed silly electrohouse remix of "let's get blown"

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

loves got me high, loves got me high, loves got me high....this is some good shit!

Isn't there a new Osunlade mix?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Matthew Jonson "Put Your Booty Shorts On"

i love him more every day

yeah, i meant Face B. Thanks for the Agoria tip.

Liking Omar-S a lot.

Tannenbaum Schmidt (Nik), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

this is almost a year old, but as far as tribal house goes, nothing i've heard since last september beats the absurdly slept-on (by ILX, anyway) coco machete label.

look for their compilation, a night called thatch. label boss lance desardi also has a mix out on om (with mark farina, i think).

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

whoops, it's with jt donaldson. san francisco session vol 5 ... deep techy bumpin one-note chicago funk for simple minds like mine.

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

On Playhouse, also Prosumer, "The Craze".... very primitive & jacking, if memory serves. Great dub mix.

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

I've been going through all my old 96-98 tech-house records in the last few weeks. Sheesh pagan was pretty good back then! Presence 'Future Love' is so niiiice.

p.s. vahid email me i have a question for you

tylero (tylero), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

Coco Machete is incredible! Especially Desardi's output as Landshark- search "Slippage" and "Can You Relate?".

Telephonething (Telephonething), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

ronan says on another thread that the dahlbacks are overrated, and he may be right--i haven't heard all that much, but i'm loving at least part of their hugg and pepp ep _bastratt_ from last year, especially "tuba." that dreamy, bouncy ascending bass line kills me. very summery.

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

i've been listening a lot to stuff like donnacha costello/five green circle, the recent trapez LTD release is pretty good. also the new swat squad on trapez regular.

other than that, everything kompakt of course. i've got the tocotronic kompaktpop record coming in a couple of days along with that new immer EP thing so i'm excited to listen to those.

other stuff: bruno pronsato, the am/pm split 12" on sudelectronic, and discovering older perlon records like kalabrese's 'chicken fried rice'.

jason m (jason m), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

vahid I quite like some Coco Machete stuff, that one Carlton Banks single was good, "Storytime With Carlton Banks", but it is very retro.
