In Praise Of: "Such a Daze" by Straightjacket Fits

I always thought of it as a sort of shoegazer anthem, mainly due to the gauzy production and the massive, massive string of melodic hooks. I've never really connected that much with other Straightjacket Fits stuff, as much as I love Kiwi pop, but this song always freezes me in place until it's time to press repeat.

Anyone else a fan of this song? It's from the album "Melt." I'd link to a clip if I knew how (or if someone told me how).

I like this one (and the album it came from) but for me it's really all about Hail, and the Life In One Chord EP.

Saw them live in '91 in Philly (opening for the La's!) and they were tremendous.

if i made a chart of my fave straitjacket fits songs most of them would be andrew brough songs and this would be number one. it's just a perfect three minute pop rush, with the ringing guitar and the sorta mumbly vocals and the build-up right near the start, fantastic. it's one of the most perfect songs ever. 'in the dark' by bike is an almost worthy sorta-sequel. the fits were horrible without him and i bet the reunion wasn't as good as it could have been since andrew wasn't involved. this song and 'i like rain' and 'the back of her hand' were on nearly every mix tape i made for about five years.

it's one of the most perfect songs ever.

Word. Apt that it appeared on an album called Melt.
