I'm not going to lie. I found out about this band on Subterranean.

I think they could be the new...um...whatever it is they're trying to be.

"Hey Now Now" is probably the best song of the month (July '05).

i looked them up not so long ago after i read about them on pitchfork. i think the only references i could find on ilm were from the guy who wrote the pitchfork review. i seem to recall the review kinda scared me off a bit because it referenced so many different influences.

Just get "Hey Now Now" now.

You'll be addicted to it (just like Michael Costello).

ok i just checked the review on pitchfork and it only references about 3 artists. so i don't know what review i'm talking about. maybe i made it up! sounds ok though. i'll check it out.

i haven't heard them but are they named after the cloud club in the chrysler building?

Some good songs, but more that don't go anywhere. "Hey Now Now" is a great single, though.

"Hey Now Now" is good stuff, but it can't be the single of July -- my itunes has it last played in May...

rogermexico (rogermexico), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

I really like the last song on the Cloud Room album as well but can't think of the name. But yeah, Hey Now Now is a damn fine song.

BanjoMania (Brilhante), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

they're terrible.

I can't even remember how "Hey Now Now" goes, so there goes that.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

actually, whenever I try to recall the song's hook, I recall the hook from Sisters of Mercy's "This Corrosion" instead.

Yeah I saw the vid on Subterreanean and I REALLY liked that tune... and seeing as I usually hate everything on Subterranean...

six months pass...
Here's an article I wrote about them. They make for a very interesting case study of how things go wrong.

I appreciated that piece, Joseph. But now I want to hear "Hey Now Now" again because it was one of those tracks I downloaded-and-trashed back when people ("the blogosphere") where chatting about it.

Read this this morning -- really good work lately, man!

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 16 January 2006 23:45 (twenty years ago)

Thanks!!

x-post: Hm. Should I YSI it? I feel a little bad because it's not like anyone will read the article and buy the album.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 16 January 2006 23:47 (twenty years ago)

I enjoyed that article too! though I did take issue with characterizing "service" as "icky": one of those instances in which I'd say "if you're not offering an alternative, don't find fault with the default"

Mr Straight Toxic (ghostface), Monday, 16 January 2006 23:54 (twenty years ago)

Handjobs, man. That's an alternative.

The Dr. was OTM. I can remember the hook if I try, but I have to fight through Eldritch/Steinman first. And that ain't easy.

joseph - thanks for the link, I haven't read Pfork for a while and I would have missed a great piece. Good stuff!
