I think i may have beat off once while the video was on.

The first cassingle I ever bought; it's just meh. The followup "Shake For The Sheikh" (a sort of sequel to "Rock The Casbah") is better.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 10:26 (twenty years ago)

love that video, yeah.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Words could not possibly adequately express how very much I loathed this record at the time. This is bad music. If you like it, you're a bad person and should be sent to a freezing gulag and fed nothing but rancid fish guts for the remainder of your days, you foul excrement of a person.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

this song is awesome! this town needs an enema!

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 13 July 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

Ummm...it's better than Will Smith's 'Wild Wild West'?

jedidiah (jedidiah), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 12:47 (twenty years ago)

The dreadlocked whiteguy bassist's faux-toasting makes me want to flay baby seals alive.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

m coleman (lovebug starski), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

I watched a bunch of women clog to this in elementary school. Classic!

YAY OFF TO THE GULAG FOR ME!

The Ghost of A Foul Excrement Of A Person (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

Rancid fish guts are yummy when consumed while listening to this, "Subterranean Homesick Blues," and "Pump It Up."

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

whoa i just had a really vivid memory of listening this song, i was in LA aged 8 and sitting on the toilet of a restaurant that had roller skating waitresses and crazy wallpaper and license plates on the walls and id just had cherry cola for the first time ever

minna (minna), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I like this song too. I remember watching this on MTV at my grandma's house in Florida, and I was only allowed to watch MTV when she was out of the house because she's Southern Baptist and is easily offended.

Their last hit was a soggy ballad called "I'll Be There" that was the soundtrack to one of my summer crushes in '91.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Coleman - OTM!!!! The first thing I thought of when I saw the title to this thread was Kool Moe Dee. So proud of myself for having to access deeply hidden memory banks to recall Escape Club's song...

This was the "Turn of the Decade" tune of the 80s! Headin' for the 90s! Livin' in the Wild, Wild West! WILD WEST!

Ugh. I will now soak my ears in bleach...

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

not only was this one in the very front of my memory banks, it often sifts through my day-to-day consciousness. i think it sort of left an indelible impression on me.

hey bro!

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

oh and i love it.

peter smith (plsmith), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

i dl "ill be there" last night.

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

haha all i can remember is the gunshot noise!

g e o f f (gcannon), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

It's a decent song. But what I really remember about that first Escape Club album is that the white paint/ink on the cassette I bought rubbed off within a few days and I never had any idea what side I was listening to.

(Same thing happened with just about every other Atlantic/Elektra/WB cassette I bought for about 6 months in 1988)

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

give me give me wild west
give me give me safe sex
give me love give me love
give me time to live it up

ugh

andrew m. (andrewmorgan), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

A laudable sentiment!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

(the lyrics, not the 'ugh')

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

This was my favorite song for a time. For several reasons.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

I'm requesting that we subvert this as a Kool Moe Dee thread now.
BUM RUSHED!

Right when I was escaping into my freshman quarter at UCLA and figuring things out a bit more. "Hmm, this Gregg Araki guy really likes this new album by a band called Ministry?"
