Hefner were a bloody brilliant band, although they lost it badly with Dead Media and the French stuff. I try to pretend that neither of those albums ever happened. From the interviews with Darren that I've read, he seems to dismiss the earlier stuff for precisely the reasons that I loved it so much - his singing, the fact that they ripped off Jonathan Richman, the rest.

Mind you, his new solo stuff sounds great, although I've only heard it played down the phone by a friend in true 'Virgin Suicides' style. It's so good to hear him singing about freckles and corkscrew curls again.

yeah dead media was good. the french was horrible. his solo stuff will probably also be horrible. apparently there is like 50 unreleased hefner songs to be made available soon, that will probably be horrible too.
