C/D: Year Of The Rabbit

I like me some Failure, and I keep planning to pick up that Replicants, but Amoeba always seems to be out whenever I remember.

Should I be adding Year Of The Rabbit to my shopping list? Have I been missing out?

YotR is definitely worth picking up..it's no Fantastic Planet, but a solid album nonetheless. If you're a big Ken Andrews fan like myself, I highly recommend you check out his solo project, ON, if you haven't already.

No you are not missing out on anything. Don't get Year Of The Rabbit.

YOTR is probably the least best Ken Andrews project, although there are a few really good standout tracks on that record ("Hunted," that one that's like "we can get high again"). I would recommend getting The Replicants album instead. (It's probable that you've heard Fantastic Planet, a.k.a. the most underrated record in the history of recorded music, but if not this should be a high priority.)

Fantastic Planet would be classic for the "detuned piano" keyboard hook on "Daylight" alone.

("Hunted," that one that's like "we can get high again")

crap, those are intended to be 2 seperate songs - I forgot the title of the 2nd one.

Also try to locate "Your Sister Says John" which I think is the best ON track.

As for C/D, YOTR is sadly a dud overall.

"Your Sister Says John" is actually a very faithful cover version of an unreleased Blinker The Star song.

Wow, that's the coolest thing I've heard all day.

Blinker The Star

Blast from the past! Whatever happened to him/them?

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 15 July 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

Jordon Zadorozny from Blinker is involved with Ken Andrews on some new project, along with a few others, apparently. Not sure about the rest of the group.

four years pass...

Just revisited this album for the first time since 2003.

My immediate reaction: LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL

I mean, I dig the Failure/Replicants albums well enough, but after Fantastic Planet... oh boy. Let's not go there.

yeah it hurts to listen to. it's not nearly as bad as ken andrews' solo stuff. i'm not really sure what happened.

oh, right, he lost greg edwards.

OTM -- the Autolux album still holds up nicely, in fact, and they played a GREAT live set at ATP NY last year.

agreed. but they need to put out another record.

not sure if you know this, but andrews is involved with something called digital noise academy, and they're alright. they're busy working on a full-length. it's a collaborative project, so andrews is involved, but he isn't the principle songwriter. members range from people like his wife, charlotte martin, to aaron harris from isis.

there myspace only seems to have a link to their newest song, but there are a couple others floating around.
