Marshall Stax (Marshall Stax), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

why?

huell howser (chaki), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

I don't get it. I. Don't. Get it. Do you understand me?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

He has a friend called tom?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

Ben Folds "the greatest piano player of our time."

An opinion shared with N*ck H*rnby.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:17 (twenty years ago)

He arranges all his favourite music into genres. *I* was cooler than him as a teenager, FFS

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

Why is he cool?
Cause he listens to the stooges rather than say nelly (or whatever other random artist the 'youth' of today supposedly like)?

Bn1, Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

he is possibly the LEAST cool teenager who has ever existed!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

But he likes rocking out, to music!

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 14 July 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Um...when I click the top link I get an error page saying MySpace is down. And, oddly, a rather faithful and accurate Pac-Man game in Java.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Thursday, 14 July 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

"I don't get it. I. Don't. Get it. Do you understand me?"

No, sorry, can you possibly make yourself a bit clearer?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 14 July 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

"You don't get it" ...

geyser muffler and a quarter (Dave225), Thursday, 14 July 2005 10:26 (twenty years ago)

"But he likes rocking out, to music!"

Has no-one thought to invite him to join us all here yet?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 14 July 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

He's not already?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 14 July 2005 10:44 (twenty years ago)

He applied to join, but I told him: "We're not going to be as strong as our weakest link!"

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 10:47 (twenty years ago)

We're only as cute as our shabbiest mink?

Wienerwaltz (Øystein), Thursday, 14 July 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

I told him that the only pleasure that I was gonna get was to ream his ass just like the coach of a football team or any business until he gets it right.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

Well, that was certainly good enought to persuade me to join.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

Osborne, you're a cheeky minx for sure!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

Did I get it wrong again Mr. Carlin?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

well hes obviously not cool but neither are any of you! he seems like a nice middle class boy who doesnt have very interesting taste in music, he reminds me of me at that age! somebody shd get him into teen angst

jeremy jordan (cruisy), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:33 (twenty years ago)

Somebody should get the slovenly youth into khakis forthwith and despatch him to Iraq to FIGHT FOR HIS COUNTRY the cowering, craven wretch.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

WTF is wrong w/the kid? Most of the musick he likes = great, and he's playing a modcan modular synthesiser, which fucking rox0r!

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

He's definitely gay.

zeus, Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

Well, that's obviously fuckin' terrible then, innit. :-/

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

he seems like an alright kid, reminds me of one of my sister's friends who is a musical/computer prodigy with all these bands and side projects and movies going on.

latebloomer: occasionally OTM (latebloomer), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

The point is he is not currently the world's coolest teenager.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

Who is the world's coolest teenager, then? (ans=probably a total knob, I suspect)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

At the moment I'd say Charlotte Church.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

he seems fairly cool to me until you get to his favourite movies. anyone who thought he was "the worlds coolest teenager" onviously has a bit of a bizarre obsession with coolness and therefore never will be. cool is hugely overrated anyway.

anyway those movies ffs!

1. Any original Star Wars movie (the new movies were a joke....lynch George Lucas!)
2. The Blues Brothers (always reminds me that music is about sticking it to the man and awesome car chases....the ending is a symphony of metal carnage!)
3. Stop Making Sense (a Talking Heads concert film...how every concert film should be made)
4. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (I figured it was implied because it's so awesome but I'll put it on here just to seal the deal)
5. The Kids Are Alright (all about The Who...the greatest rock band of all time, as in not Led Zeppelin)

the who are the greatest rock band of all time!!!! star wars at number one, how cool!!!

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

I like him. I predict he will flower when he leaves home.
x-post - Jed! Stop Making Sense is great!

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 14 July 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure he's OK as a person and I could probably enjoy a pint with him. Otherwise he seems a fairly average teenager and I don't see why he's supposed to be especially cool (I agree that cool is overrated).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

anna i know that! i'm sure he's a treat. i just wonder about the motives of someone who would start a thread about him on here.

xp

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 14 July 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

it is rather strange.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

2. The Blues Brothers (always reminds me that music is about sticking it to the man and awesome car chases....the ending is a symphony of metal carnage!)

this is great!

dan beale, Thursday, 14 July 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

not perhaps the best metaphor he could have deployed at the current time

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 14 July 2005 12:15 (twenty years ago)

I could probably enjoy a pint with him.
Not for another four years.

Pfft. The Dead Kennedys arenae a punk band!

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

he has no friends

"Tom" doesn't count

Tigerstyle Shamanic Vision Quester (sexyDancer), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

I love how he puts Beefhearts and some other bands in Unclassifiable:.
Coolest teenager ever? Uh, no, he has time to make a myspace page.

nathalie's body's designed for two (stevie nixed), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

I was cooler last year.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

But were you a teenager?

(you're going to say you were now, aren't you?)

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

yes.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Seriously - this kid is going to LOVE college. He is so wasted on the high school scene right now, its hilarious.

Rock on with your bad self - and Stop Making Sense is AWESOME.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 14 July 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

this guy done have some neat-o wires and whatnot hanging out his room domacile thing. he is cool.

Michael Burble, Thursday, 14 July 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

I just realized that I'm a lot younger than most people on this board.

Jamey Lewis (Jameys Burning), Thursday, 14 July 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

But can he cook?

matlewis (matlewis), Thursday, 14 July 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Why do you all love this kid more than me? :'(((

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 14 July 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

("you all" = the two people who say he is cool, obv.)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 14 July 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

He's cooler than most of you fuckers!

Jon, remind me again why you haven't drowned in your own vomit (ex machina), Thursday, 14 July 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

He's certainly the coolest teenager in Mukwonago, Wisconsin.

Can we agree on that?

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Thursday, 14 July 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Hey guys, apparent world's coolest teenager posting here. Didn't think I'd get a little fan club, but hey it's all good. The modular in the picture is a mix of Modcan, Blacit, and Paia modules. Right now i'm working on a Wendy Carlos-style reworking of Bach's 4th invention. One of these days it'd be kinda cool to rev the beast up and try some Residents stuff on it. Hope to converse with you all later, peace out.

Eric K (Eric K), Thursday, 14 July 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

i guess that ends the speculation

Michael Burble, Thursday, 14 July 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

My 15-year-old daughter (who, last time I checked, was listing Baader Meinhoff, Brian Eno, the Fugs, the Incredible String Band, and Harry Nilsson in her MySpace profile): "his only hobbies are rocking out. i don't even know how to rock out. or how to 'kick out the jams'."

xhuxk, Thursday, 14 July 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Is she single?

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Thursday, 14 July 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Do you check to make sure no one is leaving her "questionable" myspace comments?

matlewis (matlewis), Thursday, 14 July 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

She's 15. Are you a dick?

Masked Gazza, Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

he is going to go to college grow a beard and become a loathesome NOISE DUDE

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

loathesome = what i'd hope they'd construe as a complement see?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

Chuck's barely-concealed pride in his daughter is rather endearing.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:24 (twenty years ago)

this kid's taste in music is light years cooler than mine was at 17. props to him.

gem (trisk), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:36 (twenty years ago)

She's 15. Are you a dick?

I'd assume he's trying to set up the myspace guy, not himself.

mike h. (mike h.), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:49 (twenty years ago)

There's no way this wasn't going to be a MySpace link. *bored indie-rock sigh*

billstevejim (billstevejim), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

I miss the preteen hardcore kids on myspace.

Jon, remind me again why you haven't drowned in your own vomit (ex machina), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:57 (twenty years ago)

Given he's only got four friends, including Tom, who's much to busy to play shadkhen, he needs all the help he can get!
