"I don't know"

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:03 (twenty years ago)

It tells me that it's OK to stick to R4 and 5 Live. Or listen to a CD.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

Time to ask your friends, mom or dad or older brothers & sisters if they have anything interesting for you to listen to, that you might not've already heard. My suggestion today is that you listen to Magazine's "Secondhand Daylight" instead of anything on the BBC playlist.

SoHoLa (SoHoLa), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

8 good records. DJs have uniformly poor taste.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:29 (twenty years ago)

DJs have uniform.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

i saw jo wiley on nu cavendish st yesterday.

N_RQ, Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

In the chicken/egg world of radio programming and representation of audience taste and cultural trends, Radio 1's playlist appears reasonable, given it's position and location.

Popular music remains critical but stable.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

I just want to say I really love the Rolldeep single btw, and I hope it is followed by the fabulous 'Bus Stop'.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

13 tunes which I'd be happy to hear if they came on the radio.
Several others which I've not heard yet, but want to.
Much the usual quotient of huh, meh, and ugh.
Same as it ever was. There have been much worse times than this.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Thursday, 14 July 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

I think the choice of singles that HAVEN'T been playlisted over the last year has been shocking. Annie being the obvious one.

Luckily the current music boss is leaving:

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 14 July 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

I'd love to see a playlist from 20 or 30 years ago. I'd guess this is much more fun, interesting and strange than anything from then.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 14 July 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

zebedee (zebedee), Thursday, 14 July 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:35 (twenty years ago)

One thing it tells us is that My Doorbell won't be on the C list for long. That is a huge hit.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Thursday, 14 July 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

Alfie on Radio 2, yeah!

SoHoLa (SoHoLa), Friday, 15 July 2005 01:22 (twenty years ago)

it tells us that what's on radio playlists these days isn't indicative of the wealth of music that's actually out there...

drystereo (drystereo), Friday, 15 July 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

Magic Numbers on all three lists, I see.

And what the chuff is "I Predict A Riot" doing in XFM's "upfront" list? They're not re-releasing it, are they?

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:39 (twenty years ago)

they are

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

ah that's OK then.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:50 (twenty years ago)

i didn't even know it had been deleted. there you go. i mean it only got to number 22 first time around. disgraceful really. especially when it's currently available on the fourth best selling album in the uk.

singles, eh? what are they good for?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

glad to see joy zipper gettimg some airtime to be honest ..

mark e (mark e), Friday, 15 July 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

Singles? Promo for albums, and for bands to have something to encore with...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 15 July 2005 09:07 (twenty years ago)

is't re-releasing singles all part of the 'campaign' for breaking bands now? Release one of the band's better songs (usually their 2nd best song) as a single on a tiny independent label (to sell to the indie kids), then Re-release the track a year later, usually as the 4th or 5th single off the album.

jellybean (jellybean), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Remember the Good Old Dayshhhh when singles were NEVER INCLUDED ON ALBUMS?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 15 July 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

Someone post the 1Xtra playlist now.
