I especially liked it when he went off on shitty b-level psychadelic pop.

I remember being very upset when I was in my 20s hearing him saying that your body doesn't really ever feel the same after you pass 30. This time he was talking in terms of seven year cycles. "I'm in the last of my seven year cycles now, when this one ends I'll be 65". Actually, I prefer the idea of cycles, it sounds, well, almost cyclical, like being some kind of terminal phoenix.

Iggy is a frickin' verbal genius. Always has been, always will been. Robert Christgau once tossed a genial insult toward "those who consider Iggy a font of natural wisdom." I count myself among that crowd. As great a lyricist as Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley or James Brown.

I also love how he sounds a little like Butt-head when he says "Uhhh . . . "

He has that certain quality only found in people that have done a lot of drugs. That slightly crazy vibe.

Anyways, it was a good interview. Terry Gross does a lot of interesting music related shows. The Go-Betweens were on last week.

I cracked up when he bagged on 60s rockstars like CSNY: "they all got fat...like the Airplane, they went from 'White Rabbitt' to 'We Built This City on Rock&Roll' what a crappy song..."

near the end he suggested pending retirement after recording w/the reunited Stooges. his thing re: "seven year cycles" makes sense.

I think it's great that he mentions Zombie Birdhouse at the end of the NPR interview, which was also the album he was pushing on Letterman. Ow, my head!
