Screw YSI, that's old news.

I just saw the most clever use for all those Gmail invites you've got lying around that you're never going to use.

Set up a dummy account, mail yourself mp3s, and then hand out the login and password to whoever you want to grab them from you. No expiration date, no file tampering from YSI, no RIAA interference. It's genius!

Except it doesn't work.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

haha that fixed that

Why wouldn't it? The files stay on the google server until you delete the email that contains them.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

We tried it and they banned our account for "unusual patterns of login behaviour" or somesuch.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

aw but it was a good idea in theory though johnny

gem (trisk), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

Ah... I guess I should have skimmed the YSI/Gmail threads then.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

it works pretty well for small/low traffic user groups though

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:48 (twenty years ago)

like if us 5 tried it.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 15 July 2005 08:49 (twenty years ago)

I've done this with groups of about 20 with no ill effects.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

it's touch and go. Gmail DOES monitor for that scam though.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 15 July 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

ILM should set up a WASTE network

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Friday, 15 July 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

speaking of those gmail invites, anybody still got some? I had one months and months ago but never got around to activating it and it expired. But I could actually use one at the moment...

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 15 July 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

you need to tell us your current email address first

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 15 July 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

ILM should set up a WASTE network

we already have a DC hub and hardly anyone uses it

W i l l (common_person), Friday, 15 July 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

My current email address (slightly googleproofed) is: jm4ysh4rk@nyc.rr.com. Any invite would be mos'preciated.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 15 July 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Friday, 15 July 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 15 July 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

What a odd thread to post in :) -

* You connect to the Direct Connect Hub located at 'ilx.p3r.net:6000' (that is, hostname 'ilx.p3r.net' on port 6000).
