How do you define selling out? What artists have sold out, who the most, and how have they sold out?

Elastica. I went to Sister Ray at Monday lunchtime to buy "Stutter" and it was the last-but-one copy they had, so they definitely sold out.

umm, the fact I have it is irrelevant. The fact that the band (or presumably someone close) sold it is the point.

Sell-out is a term I used to hear a lot in the mid to late 90s at school. Now I would only reserve it for certain bands, among them:

Metallica

I'm trying to think if I know any other bands that selling out had a negative effect upon besides Metallica. There really aren't many.

Metallica didn't really even sell out. They just smartened up a little too quickly.
