does skinner write their lyrics? cos these are some funny, witty, very english, but kinda shallow, and depthless lyrics. good stories but not much reply value really. beats are tepid also. some good songs, but too many about the girls dem over sappy bog standard hip hop beats. this could have been good. if they had better beats it would be hotter.

YSI?

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Saturday, 16 July 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

Bits of this album are absolutely fantastic. If we're calling it a grime album, it's a tie w/ Virus Syndicate for best one this year

DJ Mencap0))), Sunday, 17 July 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

i dont really see it as grime, more like funny/quirky british hip hop. but its got some grime influence on there, yeah.

ppp, Sunday, 17 July 2005 09:32 (twenty years ago)

The football song literally had me LingOL, which rarely happens

DJ Mencap0))), Sunday, 17 July 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

This is brilliant - going to surprise a lot of people. Sounds like RZA's beats at times (got that moodiness to them). And yeah, the football song is absolutely brilliant.

Inviting Sway to complete blow you away on your second single: possibly not the best way to go about making a name for yourself.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 17 July 2005 21:04 (twenty years ago)

Problem is when you listen to the track in the context of the album Sway's verse doesn't really fit - misses the narrative humour of the song (they're wearing overalls 'cos they've been painting their nan's front room!). Can't imagine Sway coming up with a better album than this, to be honest. Better rapper, yes, but no where near better songs.

kinda

okokok, Monday, 29 August 2005 10:09 (twenty years ago)

Streets fans need to hear it.

JoB (JoB), Monday, 29 August 2005 11:00 (twenty years ago)

theyre kinda shit. theyre like black cockneys from an eastenders casting rejection. kinda crappy. beats are totally shit and weak. good stories but you hear it once, youve heard it enough. gimmick shite.

londoner, Monday, 29 August 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

personally i like the album its off beat its not ya underground hardcore grime if ya like hiphop but not the real grimey stuff then u should vibe on this, same with the kano album although kano's album is 1 of the best ive heard in a long time

I have to say that I didn't like this at all. Like most people, I find Professional Londoners pretty resistable. It will make an excellent period piece in 20 years time though.

londoner pretty much sums up the entire world's opinions on this album.

I really really really like this. Way better than the new Streets, way better. The lyrics and flow work really well and don't stop entertaining. I don't know what the complaints about the beats are all about - they're really good.

Csn anyone YSI the Baby Blue version of "Excuse My Brother"?

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

What To Do

* Talk to someone you can trust, a teacher, parent, older friend or relative.
* Be persistent. If the first person you talk to ignores you don't give up, speak to someone else.
* If you can, write down everything the bullies have done or have said to you, and try to write down how you feel. When you have found someone you can trust and who is helpful, discuss what you have written with that person. Be very careful to only write down things which really happen.
* If you find it difficult to talk to an adult, ask one of your friends to come with you, or ask someone to talk to an adult on your behalf.
* You could telephone Childline (Freephone 0800 441111 or Freephone 0800 1111). Their helpers provide a confidential counselling service for young people in trouble or danger.
* Most importantly, do something. Sometimes bullying stops quickly but doing nothing means it may continue until someone is seriously upset or hurt. That could be you, or the bullies may find new victims. If their behaviour is not challenged they are unlikely to stop.

What Not To Do

* Don't try to deal with the problem on your own- there is nothing wrong in asking for help.
* Don't hit the bullies- you might end up being accused of bullying yourself
* Always tell the truth about what has happened. Don't exaggerate. If a small part of what you are saying is shown to be untrue then it throws everything else into doubt.
* Don't believe the lies that the bullies tell about you.
* Don't hide what is happening from the adults you trust. Keeping things secret is the bullies' biggest weapon against you. That is why they go to so much trouble to try to stop you telling.

i fucking HATE these guys. the worst kind of novelty rap ever. not even mildly funny. i liked routine check but since then they decided to be the black only fools and horses of uk rap and that new single is maybe the worst thing theve done. i think its meant to be touching but its just rub. how is it these idiots/chuckle brothers of uk hip hop get a deal and guys like skepta dont?

titchyschneiderMk2, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

They're no Stig the Homeless Microphonist.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:27 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah it's not great is it

Rowlando, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 11:33 (eighteen years ago)

How is it 'novelty rap'? Because it's British? Haven't heard the new one.

the next grozart, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)

Still reckon it's better than the last Streets and that shitty Sway album combined.

holy fuck, that new album is crap. not sure where they rate next to example and professor green but theyre all approximately on the same level of dire shitness, no matter how many times hip hop connection tries to convince me of their infinite dopeness that has been paid for by the label or pr company or mike skinner himself (i dunno).

titchyschneiderMk2, Wednesday, 7 November 2007 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

shocker innit. even with zero expectations. the only question remaining is whether it's this or kano that gets turkey of the year.

god the uk music industry is truly rotten. please destroy the whole thing.
