This might be awful.

This will be awful.

Fixed.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Sunday, 17 July 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Brainwasher.

It might not be bad. They've been doing a lot of shows so maybe they found out their groove or something. It could be the best comeback ever.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Sunday, 17 July 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

I'll certainly be curious enough to give it a listen or two.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Monday, 18 July 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

I dread the thought of this, I really do.

Hydrochloric Shaved Weirds (Bimble...), Monday, 18 July 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

The first David Johansen album had Syl Sylvain writing credits, I wonder if they'll re-release it as a New York Dolls album now.

miccio (miccio), Monday, 18 July 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

New York Dolls new album as interesting as "new" Foghat album a ago after Lonesome Dave and Rod Price had died. One difference, no critics cared to review Foghat's "Family Jewels" whereas lots of "critics" would be set to review the "Dolls" and make up fictions about it.

George Smith, Monday, 18 July 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

I'd love to read some Foghat fictions!

miccio (miccio), Monday, 18 July 2005 01:32 (twenty years ago)

...Foghat SLASH fictions?!

haitch (haitch), Monday, 18 July 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

xpost

I had briefly considered writing a couple.

George Smith, Monday, 18 July 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

Who the heck are those people who are called out in the CNN article as being part of the album? How lucky are they as individuals to record as part of a NY dolls reunion?

Bob Crain (bobcrain), Monday, 18 July 2005 03:52 (twenty years ago)

Who the heck are those people who are called out in the CNN article as being part of the album?
Sam Yaffa was in Hanoi Rocks, and the others are session hacks.

Mike Dixn (Mike Dixon), Monday, 18 July 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

Weren't the New York Dolls better than Foghat, though?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 18 July 2005 05:11 (twenty years ago)

1,000,000 times better than Foghat

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Monday, 18 July 2005 05:12 (twenty years ago)

OK, that's good to know.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 18 July 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

Foghat and the Dolls were equally awesome.

This is lousy news.

Ian in Brooklyn, Monday, 18 July 2005 05:18 (twenty years ago)

I don't really know if this is LOUSY news. Let's ask KJ-52.

KJ-52, do you think the New York Dolls recording a new album is lousy????

http://www.revivalsound.com/i/kj52.jpg
"YES I DO. IT WILL NEVER BE 'TOO MUCH TOO SOON', YOU KNOW?"

Ok. Thanks, KJ-52.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Monday, 18 July 2005 05:23 (twenty years ago)

Too little, to late.

Somebody had to say it.

Soukesian, Monday, 18 July 2005 05:56 (twenty years ago)

sami yaffa has been playing lately with joan jett, too.
he,s got a new band of his own, called Mad Juana.

joan vich (joan vich), Monday, 18 July 2005 10:39 (twenty years ago)

Weren't the New York Dolls better than Foghat, though?

Maybe to the classic ILM demographic, yeah. To everyone else who liked
classic rock, not at all.

1,000,000 times better than Foghat

Go back and listen to that big "prog" band, Blue Oyster Cult, and their most "proggy" of albums, "On Your Feet Or On Your Knees."

George Smith, Monday, 18 July 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

the dolls are playing sunset junction next month, where you can see them right after the weirdos and jody watley! foghat have yet to confirm.

dan (dan), Monday, 18 July 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Actually, the modern-day Foghat has much more tenuous ties to the real Foghat than the modern-day Dolls have to the Dolls. I think it's only the rhythm section that's still around. Their lead singer is an ex-Nugent frontman, and their lead guitarist is from Wild Cherry (?!?) Meanwhile, the Dolls still have their frontman and their rhythm guitarist, who together comprise two-thirds of their songwriting team.

I've seen 'em both within the last year or so. And while the Foghat show was a fun night out, the Dolls were a revelation. I'm guardedly optimistic about the new Dolls album. At the least, it could turn out to be a very good Johansen album. Which is not a bad thing.

the only band that matters

gospodin simmel, Monday, 13 December 2010 12:31 (fifteen years ago)

was the last new one any good? i seem to remember hearing that it surprisingly was.

akm, Monday, 13 December 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

i like them all. the newer ones sound like what they are -- a bunch of adults having a blast. not everyone's cup of tea, but also kind of miraculous.

Thus Sang Freud, Monday, 13 December 2010 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

I felt like the more recent one was a bit of a letdown after the first reunion album, but I liked it enough - as Freud says, very fun.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 13 December 2010 16:59 (fifteen years ago)

they are being a little cagy about who is in the band at this point. i think most of the newer members were out on the road with michael monroe when this latest album was recorded. frank infante and jason hill filled in. i'm intrigued by the snippets from that link. the songs sound more playful. maybe syl & david jo felt liberated.

Thus Sang Freud, Monday, 13 December 2010 17:07 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, just going by the samples, there seem to have been a lot fewer heavy/loud guitar parts used on this one, too--sounds more girl-group-y than anything to me really.

Bit of a long shot, I think, but...

Does anyone want to see the New York Dolls in London tonight? I have a ticket but I can't go. I could email it to the lucky winner. It has my name on it, but I don't suppose this matters. The concert supposedly takes place in some disused tunnel underneath Waterloo Station. Small venue. £35 face value. EARL SLICK is on guitar.
