I prefer the "Haile Selassie is alive" videos to the 2Pac is alive videos generally speaking but does anybody know where this alternate-take, non-double-tracked vocals version of "I Ain't Mad Atcha" comes from? I could never understand why Pac wanted to double track all his vox when he had such a great voice
― J0hn D., Tuesday, 16 December 2008 21:20 (seventeen years ago)
I don't care to watch the vid you posted, but you do know that the version of "I Ain't Mad at Cha" in its music video is a completely different recording from the album version, right?

I don't know if I ever saw the video so no I didn't know that

Naw, I'm in the middle of listening to something else that I'm really enjoying, but here's the vid:

I'll be damned, I should have watched more videos
thanks rev
anybody besides me think the non-dbl-tracked vocal is superior in every way?

the conversation with the old guy in the beginning is creepy

Yeah I mean part of the reason I have a tough time getting into Pac is because everything is double-tracked and shit

every so often I can get a sense of the effect I imagine he was going for with this - a sort of druggy big-room feel with some space for various moods. it's like here's the same voice twice with enough panning so you can really hear that it's not just a second/third track added for boost. which it isn't, because he had plenty voice by himself - listen to the rant at the end of "hit 'em up," no double tracking there I don't think except the echo on "quadruple" at the end - it's so potent by itself. so, I think there was an idea he was shooting for, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that shock g had something to do with it initially, shock g very into trippy panning sounds and when the double-tracking vocal hits right it's got a trippy aspect to it.
that at any rate is my imagined justification for one of my favorite rapper's generally-really-puzzling-to-me creative choices
― J0hn D., Wednesday, 17 December 2008 04:41 (seventeen years ago)
I'm pretty sure the reason for his constant use of doubling is to make him sound HUGE and ALL-ENCOMPASSING. I mean, one Tupac voice is big enough, how can you fuck with multiples of them?

Ok after checking REAL pictures you can tell that this is not the real Tupac...WHY? Because his bottom lip is really bigger than the top this guy has smaller lips, Tupac has tattoo on his left wrist and you can tell this guy dont, plus the nose ring is a little off from the real pictures of him. TMZ is so full of it. If you are running out of stories to post then hire new people. I will work for you and have killer stories that people would belive. Come on you can tell if you do the research.
