I think these are the best geek albums

Anymore good ones??

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 05:15 (twenty years ago)

Have to disagree... I always considered the best geek albums to be just be under the mainstream radar, but lame enough to be rejected by most of the hip/indie crowd.

Example:

Siamese Dream (two or three years after the fact)
Ours
Bauhaus
MC Chris (or whatever Adult Swim sees fit to pimp)
MXPX

Of course, I live in Southeast Texas, so my ideas of "geeks" (and to a certain extent, "goths) are mostly informed by places like Hot Topic.

No, not Goths, Geeks. Like people who love video games, star trek, D&D, math, stuff like that.

Like people who love video games, star trek, D&D, Ayn Rand, math, stuff like that.

Erm, there's a little band called Rush, people.

Decemberists, They Might Be Giants, Weezer.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Michael yr totally off on the video game rock stuff....traditionally, metal's been a big thing...Rentals too indie/obscure...Devo too hipster cool...Ozma I'm not familiar with....think more They Might Be Giants....Smashing Pumpkins is a good one...maybe some Rush, Dream Theater stuff like that....maybe a little Danzig/Misfits.

of course, trying to pin down "people" that play video games nowadays is like trying to pin down "people who watch television"

They Might Be Giants' Flood was my primary geek album towards the end of HIgh School.

I discovered The Feelies later and forgot about TMBG, fo the most part.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Ever play Columns while listening to The Boredoms' "Super AE"?
Total religeous experience....

That One Guy (That One Guy), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Decemberists, They Might Be Giants, Weezer.

I was going to say Weezer, because in a summary of them they and Rivers especially are always painted as the poster-boys of geek rock.

Nick H (Nick H), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Most geeks I know are into prog.

daavid (daavid), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

Deltron 3030.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Heavy metal.

The thing about D&D geeks is that, unlike music geeks, they haven't quite embraced their geekdom; so it's a fallacy to assume that they would be all over bands featuring smirky bespectacled frontmen. Just the opposite.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

geek/fanboys are some of the worst rockists you'll ever meet.

mjfan, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Yes, that's why nobody role plays as a speccy wizard with acne and a masturbation problem.

Scream! Scrovula, Scream! (noodle vague), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Information Society Hack is a classic computer geek album.

mikef (mfleming), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Prog sounds more true to the geek thing. Dream Theatre anyone?

Jamey Lewis (Jameys Burning), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

anything by TOOL.

haitch (haitch), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 02:07 (twenty years ago)

Alot of the computer programmers/geeks I know are into industrial music and Scandinavian metal. I always think of those genres as "geek music", although presumably the bands in question wouldn't.
