So has this not been a hit in the UK at all? Cuz obv it is pretty inescapable here.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

...And has been for awhile

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

Not in clearchannel-dominated middle america... they replaced our hip-hop/r&b station with some awful shuffle station and the pop station hasn't jumped on it. I guess there's always mtv.. maybe?

mike h. (mike h.), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

It's going to chart at #8 in the UK this weekend. Five places behind Paul Weller, 22 ahead of Inme.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

Really? I've heard it as a theme song for ballgames and commercials too. There are an awful lot of spanish speaking folx in middle america, I just figured that the spanish language stations were playing the shit out of reggaeton's hits there too.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, I'm already so sick of this song.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

Single of the fucking year

(joint with Ciara's 'Oh')
(if we're talking the Lil Jon rmx anyway)
(I've been rinsing it for months now, still not sick of it, listened to it on loop all through my lunch hour today, CAN'T GET ENOUGH)

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

No 8 is pretty good considering the lack of any significant Spanish-speaking demographic in the UK!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

It's catchy like anthrax.

Hurting (Hurting), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

I love the way it's simultaneously absolutely fucking wild and out of control, but also so tightly structured - the bridge and then the amazing "zumbale mambo pa que mi gata prenda lo motores" bit with the beat galloping back into prominence behind it all, christ, such a massive rush.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sick of it yet.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

What does "Gasolina" mean??!?!?! I am British and have never heard of this word and don't speak spanglish.

OLD SPICE® CHEMTRAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ex machina), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Londoners who come to my DJ set at 93 Feet East next Tuesday and/or Forget About The Sugar on August 12, will get to hear this.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

No 8 is pretty good considering the lack of any significant Spanish-speaking demographic in the UK!

Exactly as I said on that other thread! No 8 IS good!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

It means "gasoline," shockingly enough. (double-entendres, yippee!)

Its a great song obviously, and the album behind it is terrific too.

deej.., Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

What is "gasoline"? I am Britishes.

OLD SPICE® CHEMTRAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ex machina), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

I think the "line" part has something to do with a queue.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

Yes, that's what I thought. "Gaso" = getting the farts, no? Maybe this song is about having to poop and waiting in line?

OLD SPICE® CHEMTRAILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ex machina), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

"What is "gasoline"? I am Britishes."

It's "petrol".

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

Is it a cover of "Fuel" by Metallica done in Spanish?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 23:25 (twenty years ago)

Pe-tral?

Tubbs (dog latin), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

where is someone who seriously explain reggaeton?

Britain's Jauntiest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

oh right http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggaeton

Britain's Jauntiest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

There are literally zillions of Spanish-speaking people in Britain. I don't think they're buying this though. They all like Bryan Adams.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

This is a disappointing "summer" song... It's been everywhere in Montreal, too.

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 13:46 (twenty years ago)

Wahaidaminnit... Paul Weller is number three?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

eleven months pass...
I had forgotten I started this thread.

That is nice.

I have decided that I like this song very much, now.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 23 June 2006 06:30 (nineteen years ago)

Same here, though it might help that I've taken spanish classes between now and when this came out.
