"everybody rocking to the house crew bass"

the vibe, the breakbeat detail, the love, the presage to jungle, the melody, the think break, the love, the bass, the post-mdma lovelyness, the roughneck attitude, the love

not just a great lost record. the best record ever?

gareth, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's close, i'll give you that. but it's lacking...something. for me. to be the best record ever. i'll have to pull it out and listen again to report back.

jess, Friday, 8 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

guess i'm in a minority on this one eh?

gareth, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Based on the first 90 seconds of Real Audio from the backtotheoldskool site, I think I may have to agree with Gareth. It's stuffed full of goodness. Now downloading the proper ting.

Michael Jones, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh sod it - the download's only an .rm file. Was this ever collected on a comp anywhere?

Michael Jones, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you should be able to get it on audiogalaxy i would have thought?

any compilations it was one have probably also been out of print for a while (was there ever a Production House comp?)

gareth, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That record is kind of incredible. I don't know if it's the greatest ever, but it's pretty damn close. ("Close Your Eyes" may trump it for me.)

Dan Perry, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's available on History of Our World pt. 1, which is actually good as DB digitally mixed it instead of trying to do it with records, and it contains lots of excellent classics. Shouldn't be too hard to get hold of.

cooper, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

_History Of Our World Pt 1_ is out of print. I know this because I Lost my copy 5 years ago and have been attempting to replace it ever since.

Dan Perry, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably the greatest record that no one knows about is "Move Your Feet" by M D Emm. I can't believe it wasn't a massive hit; the beat is ferocious, the sampling is impeccable, the synths are smooth and buttery... In a way, it's a prototype for "Euphoria" (I think it came out about 6 months before "Euphoria" did).

Dan Perry, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if this is the m d emm track i think it is then it was 1991 (about 15- 18 months before euphoria). think it was mark ryder. although it didn't see chart action it was a pretty big club/pirates record here

gareth, Monday, 11 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you should be able to get it on audiogalaxy i would have thought?

Hmmm, this involves becoming a member and downloading something called a satellite, yes? I'm not sure I can be bothered. I'll just hunt for that mix CD.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Have you got this on MP3 Gareth? Cos if so then you can use that Grokepile password to good effect...?

Tom, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm afraid its on 12". but when i get all sorted out at home with firewalls, anti-virus stuff, barking dogs, bear pits, poison spikes and the rest, then i'll get onto audiogalaxy, where i should be able to find it. unless there is some way of converting vinyl to mp3?

gareth, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

unless there is some way of converting vinyl to mp3?

Just run the output from yr stereo into your PC's soundcard input, and record using whatever software you have. The signal going into your soundcard will have to be line-level (don't just take the output from the turntable itself, but take it from the tape output on yr amp [i.e. where the signal off the vinyl has been equalised and amplified]; if it's some all-in-one thing, then I'd have to see it to advise any further). You'll have a WAV file, and I'm sure you have a utility for converting these to MP3s.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 12 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have put this on filepile now, so you can download it!

gareth, Sunday, 17 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks Gareth!

Tom, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So now we all need the Groke password, yes? Or is there any other way of getting stuff off Filepile when it's dropped into the archives?

Michael Jones, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish I had a second account I could make public. I'll think about the Groke account though.

Tom, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry Tom, I wasn't really demanding that we all get access to yr account. I suspect "Euphoria" will crop up somewhere else now that Gareth has released it into a non-peer-to-peer environment. Or else I'll track down that mix CD.

Michael Jones, Monday, 18 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that i can even consider your suggestion, Gareth, goes a long way toward possibly confirming it...

maybe on the other side of a peak to Foul Play's "Open Your Mind (Foul Play remix)" comedown?

haha wtf

dabnis coleman's ghost (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

It's awfully close, though I wish it were a hint more concise--the last minute or so could have been excised w/no loss musically. But yeah, it's a big big favorite.

Sometimes I wish the ridiculously great opening of "The Gun" moved along into something as great as "Euphoria."

I'M SURPRISED THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE EVEN HEARD THIS TUNE.

i sometimes wonder how my knowledge of rave is unfairly colored by the fact that it's almost entirely thru an old-ilm filter...

best record ever tho

This song is the sound of a transition between worlds, from one life into the next--thank you Nino! Thank you Gareth!

History Of Our World Pt 1 is on Spotify now, fwiw

Dan I., Thursday, 6 August 2020 17:54 (five years ago)

The slightly ominous xylophone breakdown two thirds of the way in is spectacular. Lots of the hardcore classics really are pocket symphonies.
