Quite impressed by this. Obviously "To My Song" is fairly big around the place now, but there's alot of variety on the album, "Night To Begin" is really slick and "Had It All" is just a brilliant electrohouse record.

i totally agree... i think this record is top notch in a perverse way. it is so sleazy and camp... it is one of my favorite records this year, and i still can't explain completely why.

I think it's crap really. Or a better way to put it: the music is amazing. The vocals/songs are utter crap. Lovely intro though.

i think the vocal/lyrics are supposed to be like that really... khan is out for a bit of fun and if you haven't heard the solo snax record than you didn't here his cover of "ooh she she wa wa" by apollonia 6... another group not exactly know for lyrical prowess as just that it is supposed to be a fun ride. i think it is supposed to be like one big drunken tea dance recorded for the masses. pretty simple really.

I understand what they're trying to do, and they do it well. I just don't like that kind of thing (crap saxsolo's, irritating guitar solo's, those 80s melodies.)

Did you like the first album Omar?

I haven't heard the new one yet, but really enjoyed Going Out.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 21 July 2005 12:20 (twenty years ago)

omar... ahhh, well then, understood. i don't really know why i like it to be quite honest, just do. would normally run a mile from this sort of thing.

ebenoit, Thursday, 21 July 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

Tim...haven't heard the first album. I would love to hear a dubbed version of the album though.
Ebenoit...yeah, I supposed it's a thing I could like against odds but it just didn't happen (maybe under the right circumstances, some party with loadsa nitrious oxide.)

I gave my copy away, maybe Stevo is on the pro-side (although he's been awfully quiet about this album.)

i think 'going out' was slightly better but this is really good in places too. i have been hammering the 12" of 'say cc' all summer - camp anthem! 'to my song' should be number one. in fact, cc should and could be massive - i'm convinced of it.

last summer i played with them in dieppe (tiny, run down french port). dieppe is grim. i think everyone from the age of 18 - 35 has got the hell out. the gig was sponsored by some local cultural institute to bring some entertainment to the culturally starved locals. it was in this big theatre which slowly began to fill up with kids. i was sitting in the auditorium watching it fill up and started to get a feeling of dread as i realised the average age of the audience was about 11. hmmmm, that new trapez 12" i had just bought isn't exactly going to take the roof off here i thought. anyway, snax and khan go on the stage and within 30 seconds the place is in uproar. it was like a take that comeback concert. none of these kids had ever heard cc before but they instantly fell in love with the music, the words, the singing and the outrageous dance moves. they ended up having to play the whole set twice by which time the kids had sussed some of the words and were singing along, climbing on to the stage, screaming, shrieking and genuinely loving every second of it.

perhaps children like crap boy bands because that is what they are fed. if only some record label marketing dept. realising that two very gay, not so young men with slightly sleazy songs could be huge with kids went for it!

anyway, the trapez 12' went down a treat later too and it ended up being my favourite gig of last year. now, how to reposition myself as an under 18's dj......??
