The Thread Where We Name Rap Songs That Don't End In A Fadeout

Somewhat similar to the Hip-hop songs that build to a crescendo? thread: I just realized I can't name a single rap song that doesn't end in a fadeout. What the hell's wrong with me? Please throw at me some rap numbers that come to a definite stop... before I go batshit insane.

Ice Cube's "When Will They Shoot". actually tons of Ice Cube songs. Ive never noticed this fadeout tendency you speak of in hip-hop meself...

It Was a Good Day, by Ice Cube. He ends with "Wait, wait, wait a minute, (DJ) Pooh. What the fuck I'm thinkin' bout?"

I was about to say Happy Valentine's Day, by Andre 3000, but the faux tape slowdown is a fake ending.

Not to mention it barely qualifies as hip-hop!

x-post - that's funny, because I believe the video version for "It Was A Good Day" fades out (he sees all the cop cars at his house, and it ends on a "sequel forthcoming" kind of vibe).

lots of PE songs, lots of Wu-Tang, Kanye's "Workout Plan"... man there are so many...

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

OK, thanks. I feel better now.

Don't a gazillion rap songs end abruptly on albums where there are in-between parts and skits?

Sounds more abundant than fade-outs to me, in fact.

Missy's "Back in the Day".

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

Good call, Mo. (It seems we're chasing each other on these two boards.)

I totally remember the end to that video with Cube, too. And his car in that video was AMAZING. Green fleck sparkle paint, wasn't it?

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

Fucking fade-outs.

Ahh, "It Was A Good Day" was the first hip-hop song I liked (I was 15 and not listening to much beyond Dylan, REM and the Beatles at the time). I loved the sample and the narrative device, which, by the way, is the same device Solzhenitsyn uses in "One Day In The Life Of Ivan Denisovich" (a list of awful things that could have happened but didn't).

And with that, one more corny white hip-hop overintellectualizer was born.

Eminem, "Stan"

Oh yeah, that's a good one. "Damn."

I believe the video version for "It Was A Good Day" fades out (he sees all the cop cars at his house, and it ends on a "sequel forthcoming" kind of vibe).

the sequel was the video for the remix of Check Yo Self (on the Message riddim), where Cube stomps kind of ineffectually around a jail set. I don't think Das EFX got to be cons.

Heh heh, funny how many of us instantly thought of Ice Cube! I would expect that rap-wise, crossfades are much more scarce than cold endings. Or hmmmm, howbout JAZZ fadeouts? Only 2-3 I can think of offhand.

I love how Windows Media Player (or whatever) can easily eliminate fadeouts, change 'em into segues. A new way to listen to an old too-familiar favourite LP.

Shit, now I'm really nostalgic for the time rap videos were cheap.
