My Intro to Let You Know

I'm the older brother of another poster, pete smith. I live in the DC area, and I play guitar.

My mental jukebox tends to determine what I tell people are my favorite musicks, in that the first song I think of usually rides through for the rest of the day, only to be replaced the next day.

Favorites:
Jimi Hendrix - especially post Woodstock, so Band of Gypsies. And from there cometh Funkadelic. And it was good.
Tony Rice, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas - the whole new acoustic music scene
Rap with actual musical substance - this could be any number of things, but thugged out anthems without head-nodding beats or decent lyrics are wastes of space - big fan of old PE, anything related to NWA or its progeny, and Biggie.
James Brown.
Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Willie Foster, T-Model Ford - the gut-bucketier, the better.
String music - typically quartets and quintets, but a large orchestras too. I like the intimacy of the smaller ensembles.

I also like perpetuating the anti-Dave Matthews arguement and have spent all necessary time reviewing the past posts (I was in a fraternity house around the time that "Crash" came out, I have seen him four times, and can play a number of his songs - and I STILL DON'T LIKE HIM), so that's settled.

I may take some of you to task re: Stevie Ray Vaughan at some point, but I won't go out of my way to do so. Some previous posts have been...upsetting to me.

I have greatly enjoyed ILM so far, and I look forward to many more "wasted" hours of work spent here.
