missong.

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 23 July 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

heh

As with a lot of these things, it could be that my lack of any kind of stereo equipment prevents me from hearing a lot of elements in the track.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Saturday, 23 July 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 23 July 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry. I do like it, I just don't *love* it.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Saturday, 23 July 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Saturday, 23 July 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

adam is adamant about this

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 23 July 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

I think this is still Playhouse's best selling record too.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 23 July 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

it's this kind of classic utopian nonsense titling that has made techno strong

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Saturday, 23 July 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

saw him at fabric last night. i liked the album a lot beforehand, but it was just incredible over that soundsystem. unfortunately i only got four hours sleep so am in no state to say anything more helpful than that...

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

yesyesyes - at optimo tonight! i'm psyched!

adam are you sure you have the original of this and not one of the (not very good) remixes? i love the orginal because it's a kind of samba (?) track without being one and the remixes play up that latin element and make it too obvious.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

wow would love to see that show.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

I have Rest.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

I hope good stuff is going on in London when I am there.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

adam, i sorry for doubting you. i'm still nonplussed though. Ronan i would love you to see it too, and you adam!

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

when are you in london, adam?

toby (tsg20), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

The original track is astonishing (I wish more microhouse sounded like it) and the Freeform Five remix is one of the best remixes of all time.

My French friend really liked the title of this track, saying it was very poetic, although she couldn't really explain why past the basic "beautiful word beach" translation.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

boner plague

astroblaster (astroblaster), Sunday, 24 July 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

i hope he plays this live.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Sunday, 24 July 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

Seeing Isolee live a few years ago inspired me to listen to this track differently, and what had been "the track on Rest with the fluttery guitars" took on a new level of fabulousness. My trick was to turn up the bass really loud and sort of consciously focus on the Basic Channel bass chamber aspect of the track, so that when the guitar bits fly in and out like nervous butterflies it comes as a bit of a shock - this is what it was like live and I began to hear the recorded version in a similar way but it was like I had to change my perspective a bit first.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 24 July 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

"Plage" also means "track". (As in "track 2 on this CD"). But the title is still nonsensical.

zut alors, Sunday, 24 July 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes you are right. I think that is probably the intended meaning.

when are you in london, adam?

I will be there for the first two weeks of September, plus I am (finally!) going to Berlin to visit the library from Wings Of Desire (which jed and I have discussed)!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Sunday, 24 July 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

I just looked up this album on Forced Exposure cause I've been looking for it and the site says its been deleted on CD!

T. Weiss (Timmy), Sunday, 24 July 2005 23:43 (twenty years ago)

i asked him!!!

such a lovely and friendly guy. anyway - i asked him what "beau mot plage" meant and he told me "beautiful word beach" - i said that, yes, i knew that was the literal translation but what did that mean? and he said something like....

when he was a child he grew up in africa (was it Nigeria? or Ghana?) him and his friends used to play on a beach with sounded like "beau mot plage" but was actually called something that sounded very similar, a proper name. it was a joke of him and his friends to call this beach "beautiful word beach" in french even though it wasn't really called that.

sorry - he told me more detail but it was very loud in the club and i was very drunk.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 25 July 2005 02:09 (twenty years ago)

Rest is available online at Bleep or Beatport if you can't find the disc.

jeffery (jeffery), Monday, 25 July 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)

it was the first time he'd played 'beau mot plage' live in 3 years tonight. made my year.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:33 (twenty years ago)

brilliant gig - beau mot plage sounded epic!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 25 July 2005 10:36 (twenty years ago)

what also sounded epic was yr quip 'all the ilxers have been thrown out'. i was briefly imagining that alba must have headbutted a bouncer or somesuch until i realised you meant they had been asked to vacate the premises because it was the end of the night. anti climax!

anyhow, mr. isolee was totally epic. those sounds are still reverberating around my head.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 25 July 2005 10:56 (twenty years ago)

god i felt a bit bad for interrrupting u at the end there. sorry. wierd how i just think of having to leave because the night is over as "being thrown out". i suppose there's a compliment in there :/

jed_ (jed), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:05 (twenty years ago)

no reason to ever feel bad - it is ALWAYS a pleasure to see you colin.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:11 (twenty years ago)

:)

the djing highlight of the night was that speedy j track (was it?) into Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline! haha, thats is brilliant.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:15 (twenty years ago)

ha ha! that was a dare. adrian who does our lights challenged me to come up with the most ridiculous mix i could think of. my girlfriend says i should be ashamed of myself for that. shameless!

actually, i recorded that bit of the night. hang on and i'll yousendit and TOTALLY humiliate myself.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

brilliant! i thought it was joyous.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:39 (twenty years ago)

HAHAHAHA it's really good! flashback!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

highlight of the night for me was the dead kennedy's (!!!)

... and "beau mot plage" of course

an unbelievable first optimo : )

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 25 July 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

Fucking hell, that was mighty daft. I loved this and yes, it is shameless.

We arrived just as Isolee started, I liked it but also wanted everyone to leave so i could lie down and listen to his music. Met an old friend last night, haven't seen for 3 yrs...freaked-out to the acidhouse and dead kennedys
