He died here in Vancouver yesterday.

In '62 he was in the very first British blues band, they say - Blues Incorporated, featuring a pre-Stones Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Alexis Korner and Jack Bruce.

In '63 he was playing in Cyril Davis and the All Stars with Jimmy Page.

In '64 he met Rod Stewart and they played in Steampacket with Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll.

'66-'68 he was in Bluesology with a pre-fame Reg Dwight.

Since then he gigged and recorded as a solo artist or band leader until a few months ago when he contracted the chest infection that killed him.

RIP.

Wow, serious musician. How sad.

That's quite a list of talent that he's connected to and I believe you can add Keith Richards, Brian Jones and Ginger Baker to it.

Didn't Dwight choose John for a last name as homage to him?

the two early 70s LPs mentioned in the wikipedia obit, It Ain't Easy and Everything Stops For Tea were I think partly written and/or produced by Rod and Elton, by way of thanks. I've heard a couple of tracks from one of them and they're quite raw and even funky

RIP

RIP :(

I think people know his name because of his more famous friends than for anything else (I have heard virtually none of his music, but his reputation vis a vis his former associates precedes him). The answer to a bunch of great trivia questions.
