In '62 he was in the very first British blues band, they say - Blues Incorporated, featuring a pre-Stones Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Alexis Korner and Jack Bruce.
In '63 he was playing in Cyril Davis and the All Stars with Jimmy Page.
In '64 he met Rod Stewart and they played in Steampacket with Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll.
'66-'68 he was in Bluesology with a pre-fame Reg Dwight.
Since then he gigged and recorded as a solo artist or band leader until a few months ago when he contracted the chest infection that killed him.

I think people know his name because of his more famous friends than for anything else (I have heard virtually none of his music, but his reputation vis a vis his former associates precedes him). The answer to a bunch of great trivia questions.
