Loren Mazzacane spent the last 60 mintues of the show combing his hair.

Old School (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

thanks for reviving this thread before the show!

The backing band (Loren Mazzacane Connors, Matt Heyner, Chris Corsano) could easily have existed on their own. Connors was the star of the show, for me, at least while he was playing. (Why did he stop? Did Jandek gesture to him to cut it out because he was being so thoroughly upstaged?) The "hockey rink in hell" keyboard sound was amusing for a little while, annoying pretty soon after that. But generally, I'm glad I went...it was even worth skipping Napalm Death and Obituary for.

Maybe Loren took offense to Jandek's "What's the Point in Living?" existential doom stance? Curious to hear if he makes the gig tonght.

Old School (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

i thought loren was getting a little coldplay for a while up there, and wasnt unhappy when he stopped. chris & matt predictably ruled.

noizem duke (noize duke), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

Jandek had a light positioned between his keyboards, so the shadow of his microphone cast onto his face, giving the illusion that he had no features at all but a black hole in the center of a white face.

Old School (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 7 September 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

Guesses were correct: Loren Mazzacane dropped out of Brooklyn sets.

Old School (sexyDancer), Thursday, 8 September 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

but that may have been cause janky was playing gtr

what was that space like? I live right near there. Is it time to gentrify the gowanus?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 8 September 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

He's playing London in October, St Giles-in-the-field Church near Tottenham Court Road. I think I might have to go.

Philip Alderman (Phil A), Thursday, 8 September 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

I thought the Tuesday show was awesome. Quite a prog Nico proding vibe. A what the fuck is happening night all around. I've seen both Chris and Matt play with different folks many times and I'm just amazed at how they try to work with the other musicians. I think Loren sat out the last few songs cause he was having trouble with his amps. Folks sitting behind me were saying things such as " He's playing some pretty slow stuff" and "He sounds really unhappy". I think Jandek may have stayed for the whole show because when I left after the last act, the thin man with the black hat was of the corner of 2nd ave and 2nd st getting into a cab.
