Mind you, I like all these bands' musical output...! But how many of you would admit each were the root (willingly or not) of an entire hierarchy of rock fashion atrocities? No(t necessarily the) fault of the root, of course... although you're more than welcome to dig into them as well.

Well if you're talking about the ROOT, you might as well go into the Mod days of the '60s.

the sex pistols didn't really dress like punks - steve jones wore leather, lydon usually wore a suit, vicious was really the only one who dressed like a 'conventional' punk, and he got his look from richard hell and the ramones.

Plus, if you really want to know who started the punk look, it was Richard Hell.

Malcolm McLaren brang his look to the U.K. and everyone was started wearing it.

and richard hell got his look from arthur rimbaud!

I guess you can count Rimbaud. I wouldn't because Rimbaud didn't were oversized sleevless t-shirts and black jeans.

(let this be a warning to what working 16 hour days and talking to 12 job recruiters a day at the same time will do to you.. starting really stupid threads like this one, for instance. my extended apologies.)

Stikes me that there are so few pictures of Tubeway Army (compared to pics of solo Numan) that I can't for the life of me remember if they had a sartorial aesthetic at all. They just look like Foreigner roadies to me.
