deej.., Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

I like the song though. More than I expected to, because I think dangermouse is a hack.

deej.., Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

thx for the link!

I'm lovin' it!!!!

can't wait for the album.....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, wow, this is actually better than I thought it would be. Like deej, I hadn't really liked Dangermouse before, except for a couple of tracks he did with Gemini, but this is great.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

Not bad. I'm a DangerMouse hater as well. The beat works well for Ghostface but seems a bit bouncy for Doom.

- (smile), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

This was on Lemon-Red this afternoon. I thought it was shockingly good actually.

blackmail.is.my.life (blackmail.is.my.life), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

Ghostface is the best. dunno about that Cartman-rap coda though.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 26 July 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

This was on Lemon-Red this afternoon.

I can't remember the last time I posted a song that Lemon red hadn't gotten to first.

dunno about that Cartman-rap coda though.

Thats Brak. I think he's annoying. He's a cartoon network character.

deej.., Tuesday, 26 July 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

hmm. okay. well that explains the tie-in w/Cartoon Network and Adult Swim.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 26 July 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

I have this whole album.

But i'm not gonna be the one to leak it (unlike black dice).

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

logi, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

Thanks.

Gavin, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

Ghostface's rap definitely makes the beat hotter as opposed to the other way around.

Hurting (Hurting), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:02 (twenty years ago)

is there a non-Brak version? wtf

ghetty green (eman), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

This is really good!

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 05:04 (twenty years ago)

y'all are crazy, dangermouse is good. stop hating so much. ;-)

nathalie's body's designed for two (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 06:08 (twenty years ago)

Anyone else notice the press for "The Grey Album" was basically what people said about the bomb squad? "Dude, they're like, recontextualizing the samples, man!"

deej.., Wednesday, 27 July 2005 06:15 (twenty years ago)

do you like the dm and jemini album, deej? i like dm's production, there's not many producers trying to rip off prince paul instead of pete rock or primo.

Sym Sym (sym), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 07:06 (twenty years ago)

beh to dangermouse, ghost kills this track. as usual. he needs to be on every fucking track thats gonna be released now

rizzx (rizzx), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

why's the "sofa king" i got from that rar got a different beat to the one that's been floating around?

jermaine (jnoble), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

Ghostface is the only good thing about this track.

The M.F Doom verse is horrible and this here verse is an excellent example of the old a phoned in performance chiche. He's trying way too hard to do a 'Doom type flow and recapture the good ol' days of "hey" and it sounds like he's generally bored and knows he's become a parody of himself, like Kool Keith did, but continues because the 'Doom persona is still a lucrative one.

I wish he'd hang up the mic and focus on making beats.

Ellis, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

"Bizzy Box"!!! Holy fucking shit! This is a JAM.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

I like the production on these tracks too, it sounds like Doom and Dangermouse both had a hand in them. Either that or Dangermouse is totally aping Doom's beat style.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

I dont think Doom's "phoning it in" really. I mean, its definitely a generic-ish Doom verse in the sense that, you know, every Doom verse is - puns my dad would make and offbeat references. I like the beat surprisingly well also.

do you like the dm and jemini album, deej? i like dm's production, there's not many producers trying to rip off prince paul instead of pete rock or primo.

I heard it back when it came out and remember liking it fairly well. I'm not sure I hear it being more Prince Paul than Pete Rock though! Could you clarify what you mean by that? (You could be right, its been a while since i heard the album)

deej.., Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

logi, I kiss you!

Kv_nol (Kv_nol), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Anyone else notice the press for "The Grey Album" was basically what people said about the bomb squad? "Dude, they're like, recontextualizing the samples, man!"

i could reecord myself taking a piss and putting over a drum machine and it would be 'recontextualizing samples', but not good, like the bomb squad

and ive never understood why doom seems to be thouight of (not just on this board)as some sort of next level shit, he just sounds mumbly and unfocused to me.

jake b. (cerybut), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

doom's been growing on me a little lately - listened to all of madvillainy in a friends car (nice), someone told me to copy their copy of "vaudeville villian" (alrightish), i was listening to and enjoying the leaked 'sofa king' the other day (i still want to know why it has a different - and better - beat) - i was coming here to praise with faint snark, something like 'rap for mark mothersbaugh fans doesn't deserve an mc this good', but listening to the whole album now, all i can hear is ethan cringing - on second play, i want to tell doom that he's told me that joke already ("but it's a good one!"). album review in doom style:

beats straight from the coffeehouse/mouse makes it with one sugar, plenty froth, and no danger - ouch!/and doom ain't no potty mouth - it's all bleeps and cuts/doesn't beat the guts/doesn't carry heat and he's not passing any dutch/the internet says "fire! - doom a street saviour"/even gets a wire cover for very good behaviour/i won't lie though, he's got some flows when not lazier/and no more uncle tom than smokin joe frazier (ha)/but from there it gets hazier/look for praise in dorm rooms busy getting blazed

jermaine (jnoble), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

ier

jermaine (jnoble), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

jermaine that is fucking genius.

deej.., Wednesday, 27 July 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

i read the verse before fully reading the explanation and thought it was a doom verse. actually i think its better than most doom verses ;-)

jake b. (cerybut), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Naw, thats a dead-on imitation! And I like Doom a lot.

deej.., Wednesday, 27 July 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

man i hope i never get to the point where i listen to music and hear another critic/blogger/poster cringing.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

haha jermaine I'm having trouble believing you're not actually Doom now.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

Wow. Jermaine.

giboyeux (skowly), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

it's just this promo that's "bleeps and cuts" though right?

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 28 July 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)

Jermaine that is one hot verse.

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Thursday, 28 July 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

Man, nicely aped. I could totally hear it in the Dumile rasp as I read it.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 28 July 2005 04:26 (twenty years ago)

man, jermaine. that is dope!

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 01:15 (twenty years ago)

straight off demon days he go ape on the verse, the villain's so busy no time to rehearse, never been concerned about who be first, hardly heard the beeps, there's only 2or3 curses, anyhoo, many dudes'd say your lines'll sound better spoken, that way its easier to see your flow is broken, only jokin son, i just like pokin fun, and sewin lines together on the net while smokin one

someone should make a version of dangerdoom w/o the carton crap

bob carter, Sunday, 7 August 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

IMO the cartoon crap is great.. better than the skits on other DOOM albums.

Guy Incognito (Guy Incognito), Sunday, 7 August 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

oh, and the album is great. Bizzy Box w/Cee-Lo = excellent

Guy Incognito (Guy Incognito), Sunday, 7 August 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

I really only dig the Brak part at the end.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 7 August 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

does the "cartoon crap" make sense/get funny if you have any idea what the cartoon samples are?

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 8 August 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)

I really only dig the Brak part at the end.
-- miccio (anthonyisrigh...), August 7th, 2005.

Well it is WACKY.

deej.., Monday, 8 August 2005 01:05 (twenty years ago)

I love Cartoon Network, but I would prefer Dangerdoom without Shake and Brak and etc. taking part.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Monday, 8 August 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

Fuck that. Brak et al.'s inclusion makes the shit even funnier.

The Skotgod, Friday, 12 August 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

what the fuck is "Brak" and why do people think it's funnier?

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 12 August 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

http://www.yamoslair.com/pics/brak.jpg

I don't really know what he is either.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 12 August 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Alex in NYC is wearing a Brak shirt in his weblog pic! (Sorry.)

Sweat Loaf (Sweat Loaf), Saturday, 13 August 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

I am none the wiser but I now think I would be happier if Alex Toth was on the album!

(well okay so bcz of Toth I assume that it's a character from Space Ghost, so he's been used in the Space Ghost talk-show comedy thingo from the '90s or whatever. still doesn't make the skits any less bemusing to people who don't live in America and have cable TV or whatever)
