Lora Logic - Pedigree Charm

I like a couple of Essential Logic tunes but they always seem tied too close to punk for my liking, whereas this breaks away entirely following a similar path to groups like Talking Heads I guess but not as rigidly academic, more like Tom Tom Club then but not as silly and cringeworthy. Unashamedly pop, tight and bright, perfect balance between understated whispers and unabashed yelping, with enough arhythmic arrangements to placate the Raincoat fans, yet plenty of uptight funkiness and skronky dance tunes. "Martian Man" is beautiful. What do you think?

Oh yeah and it's got lots of saxaphone obviously which is grrreat.

I love it, though the b-side "Stereo" (and to a lesser extent the other b-side, "Rather Than Repeat") blow away much of the album, which is really saying something. And the Peel session was pretty magical, especially the radically different "funk" version of "Martian Man." But that's splitting hairs - it's all great.

This is perhaps a very underrated album. I was just listening to it the other day. I still need to listen to it more.

some of the stuff on the Essential Logic dbl-CD on Kill Rock Stars is mindfuckingly gorgeous

does this have "stop halt" on it? that song is wonderful (and better than most essential logic songs i've heard)

the best thing about Essential Logic is that a pre-Whitehouse William Bennett used to play guitar with them..
