What's on the playlist of your typical video game/computer nerd?

Nothing like this in the search feature and I felt it was needed.

I'm looking for stuff like:

Kraftwerk- Computer Love
Modern Lovers- I'm Straight
The Books- All Your Base....

Doesn't have to specifically be about computer or gaming but about the general lifestyle like the Modern Lover's tune.

Final Fantasy - "Adventure.exe"

Christopher Costello (CGC), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:03 (twenty years ago)

Tumililingan (ex machina), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

noise dude, you're stepping on my mystique (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:12 (twenty years ago)

The computer nerds I used to work with listened to a lot of Durstian rap-rock and a lot of Aphex Twin.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

in my experience, video game nerds don't really listen to music outside of anime and game soundtracks. ok, maybe some bad nu-metal.

They don't actually listen to this stuff.

I'm looking for ones that lyrically would tie into the lifestyle and/or with games and computers, and not so much go for what they "actually" listen to. Kind of like any celebrity "What's on your IPod/playlist" thread. I should've reworded the thread title differently to avoid confusion.

If I was playing it straight up there would be a lot of Dream Theater.

Cunga (Cunga), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 04:27 (twenty years ago)

definitely, or King's X or some such bullshit.

Viking black metal for a certain strand of nerd.

Mickey (modestmickey), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

Ed Rush & Optical's Pacman (Ram Trilogy remix has more actual Pacman in it iirc)
Krust's Kloakin' Device is full of arcade game samples

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

Just like other kinds of people, video game nerds listen to different types of music, depending on the person.

This one is listening to a lot of Federation X, The Fall, Afrika Bambaataa, and Zongamin lately.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

I listen to video game soundtracks all the time.

M@tt is certainly the one to ask here!

CANYON.MID

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Aphex Twin sounds a lot like Earthbound

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

I dunno...it gets a little old that people still generalize people that play games...it's so mass market now. I mean, even in the office, one guy is basically a Brit pop/classic 60s R&B/mode type dude....one guy listens to lots of Big Black/Shellac/Scratch Acid/etc.....one guy's a big indie rap dude....one guy listens to pretty much show tunes and classical.....Video game soundtracks are probably the one thing that distinguishes gamers from other folks in their listening habits, as a pattern....but honestly, the soundtracks now are getting pretty cool to the point where I think more people would dig them, if they gave them a chance....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Matt, lets change the topic to "S0methingAwfu1.com Forum Goons" and our strawman is a little better.

Tumililingan (ex machina), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

hahahahahahaha

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

Although, I lived with an SA goon who was into Boredoms, Beatles, Beach Boys, ELO and the Fantastic Plastic Machine....

Tumililingan (ex machina), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

Custos! Do you read /.?
Unfortunately, yes.
I saw an article about Nerdcore recently and I copy/pasted the relevant links to this thread.

Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

Cunga (Cunga), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

weezer = otm, how about other "geek" rock bands like nada surf? ozma?

but in reality computer nerds listen to either skapunk, metal, or indie.

Stephen C (ihope), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

Dan Bryk: Mark Turmel 2.0

The only song I've ever heard about a video game designer.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

Metal, Metal, Metal and a bit of Tiesto I think

frickin' username (fandango), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

i dunno...metal is really overrated as gamer music I think...maybe it was ubiquitous at one time, but not for kidz now.....

what the fuck is "Tiesto"?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 20 December 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

Diego Valladolid (dvalladt), Sunday, 25 December 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Um if we're trying to find out what computer nerds listen to wouldn't whatever music they listen to at http://ilx.p3r.net/ be a good start?
