Smokers Die Younger

Heard their new song on R1 on Monday night. Liked it. Ordered it. Got it this morning. Still like it. Green Vinyl. Called 'Kermit Song'. A bit flaming-lipsy. Features the line "I'm going to play my keyboard and not fuck anything up, as I've improved dramatically."

Anyone else heard it/of them and have any thoughts?

harthouse wrecking crew (gareth), Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

hey, does the lp have a release date?

stoogey madeupname, Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

theres not many bands around today that can channel the aesthetic of Eno, through the raw energy of back-in-black era ac/dc

partially wired (gareth), Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:18 (twenty years ago)

i dunno, seems more stooges meets lanois, to me

alexander hleb (gareth), Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:19 (twenty years ago)

everyone on my school totally loves them. like, totally everyone! james is so cute, and ryan is a peach!

clara jane (gareth), Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:20 (twenty years ago)

Fake User Names would be a nice name for a band. Though it does sound a little like a Radiohead song.

A Mouse Called Nonny, Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

how many people are there on this thread?

Frogm@n Henry, Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

we had to get new speakers, after they played here. not since the fire engines played here in 82 have i seen anything like it. the way they pastiched lightning bolt, was like david speedie in his pomp, threading through the midfield. amazing!

the regulars of carlisle railway tavern (gareth), Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:23 (twenty years ago)

I'd say three, at best. Maybe four.

hi, i live in york. i went to tracks records, but they sold out of the ep? they said they'd try and order in from the doncaster branch, but they might have sold out there too

are there any copies left? i dont want to miss out:(:(

sara lewis-jones (gareth), Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:24 (twenty years ago)

i love getting in on the ground floor. these guys don't even have a website. i googled though (long and hard!) and found a mailing address for the fan club. 'hit me up' if you're interested, folks (there may even be an mp4 in it for you!!).

bradley seeker, Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:28 (twenty years ago)

That's brilliant, as I'd got the impression they were really really rubbish. Wow, I can be so wrong sometimes!

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 28 July 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

Met them at a house party in Burley once, very nice people. Never heard any of their songs, mind.

I would be rather surprised if they had a street team. Bands playing in the middle of the bill at Gojonnygogogogo probably don't have that much use for one, yet.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 28 July 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

haha...just found this lot while googling. you guys kill me! www.theespc.com

thee spc, Sunday, 31 July 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

We put out their record by the way. Streat team! Hahahahahah...I WISH!

thee spc, Sunday, 31 July 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

Aaaaand we're through the looking-glass.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 31 July 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Smokers Die Younger should cover John Cena's "Bad Bad Man" on their next EP.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 31 July 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Also, why has James Richardson forsaken his love of Serie A football to discuss Yorkshire-based indie non-entities.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 31 July 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

If I ever try to sell a record, I'm putting gareth on my payroll.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 31 July 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

Hello, I'm in the band and I have no idea what most of you are talking about. That said I don't turn up to practice very often or gigs for that matter. Who is Ryan? We have a Rhys but I don't think even his mother would describe him as "cute". He's a fat alchoholic with bad skin and a penchant for cheap pornography (That statement could actually be attatched to any member of the band).
We do have a website it is quite simply www.smokersdieyounger.com.
There's no release date for the long player as yet but it shouldn't be too long. There is however a lovely Patsy Cline cover on Thee SPC fanzine free cd that should be out soon.
You crazy kids.....
