maybe you asked this because of that entry, but 20 jazz funk greats had two songs up a few days ago

willem (willem), Friday, 29 July 2005 06:00 (twenty years ago)

the man sprinkles genius tracks across many 7" singles, the best tracks of which have yet to be compiled anywheres, damn him

Jetlag Disco is a good introduction ep of the upbeat wrong pop
tetchy teenage tapes compiles the 4-track recordings he made when he was hilariously young and might be my favorite album
also seek the "Schnitzler" / "Groscher Lausangriff" 7" single , the "Kulturelle Revolution" 7", "Stelle Am Mund" from the b-side of "I Hate Art Galleries", & just about everything else

Tetchy teenage tape is completely classic.
also, check out Matki Wandalki. It was one of my favorite releases last year and includes "Hit Me, Provider" which is one of the best hard-edged dance songs in recent years.
Also, he was half of Klangkrieg, who were kind of an experimental electro-acoustic band. you should definitely check them out if you're into that sort of stuff.

also, how's "kubin" pronounced. is it cube-in or coo-bin or what?

Fetchboy (Felcher), Friday, 29 July 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Spiders on Phasing, which Kubin recorded under the pseudonym the Scorpions on the Brian label (instead of the legendary krautrock imprint Brain), is a worthwhile larf, too.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Saturday, 30 July 2005 06:52 (twenty years ago)

an LP of his teenage band Die Egozentrischen Zwei has just been reissued - really great. Bonkers, fast-n-short DIY synthpop before his voice had broken.

I pronounce it koo-bin without causing much controversy.

simply, just find as much kubin related stuff as you can. it's all good.

I LOST MY MOUSE!

A brief post in praise of Matki Wandalki, especially the CD bonus track (a cover of Lionel Richie's "Hello").

Telephonething (Telephonething), Monday, 31 July 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

the felix kubin & coolhaven single "where is a garden" is absurdist pop fun.
also, Aaviko and felix kubin's Superlake Beat 7" is cool surf organ stuff.
