Universally acclaimed as a footballer and universally derided as a rapper. Did he do the right thing in only recording the one song (Anfield rap doesn't count), tantalising us with the quality of his rhymes or should he have persevered and released a series of albums?

His 'World in Motion' cameo helped spread the idea that what a pop song really needs to give it some 'street cred' (dread concept) is a wicky wicky amateur rap injection. Patronising all round: why not ask Chris Waddle?! Also, footballers + musicians = uncomfortable fake mateyness. And yet, it relaxed New Order, making them seem more human/ foolish, and 'World in Motion' still provokes a sad summery yearning. But Barnes as badboy rap star? Well he mistreats his women and has plenty of $$$$, but he's way too uptight. He was a public schoolboy after all.
