Choose wisely. (I go with the hamster.)

hampsterdance ushered in a new age of song

Isn't that just the Robin Hood Disney song sped up?

Isn't that Hammer song just P-Funk sped up?

Isn't that Crazy Frog Grime?

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Monday, 1 August 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

I can hum Hampster Dance.

I already forgot what Frogsong sounds like.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Monday, 1 August 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

The Hamster Dance song is based on a sample from a fantastic toytown techno record from 1992, ergo it wins by default.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 1 August 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Hamper Dance

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Monday, 1 August 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

(x-post) Crazy Frog = Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer from the 48 Hours soundtrack, with extraneous noises added.

Damn. Badger Badger is catchier than either.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Monday, 1 August 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

Crazy Frog is in my top 10 singles of the year. You really need to hear the Crazy Frog vs Nancy Sinatra boot.

Anti-Pope Consortium (noodle vague), Monday, 1 August 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

Crazy Frog vs Nancy Sinatra boots are made for walking.

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Monday, 1 August 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Although both suck, the Cuban Boys (hamster dance) have at least made a nice tribute song to John Peel, with some nice samples from the man himself.

AXEL F IS NOT FROM 48 HOURS, DINGUS.

huell howser (chaki), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 01:07 (twenty years ago)

I thought "Hamster Dance" was a song from the original version of The Country Bears (or something like that) but sped up.

"Badger Badger Badger" fucking owns, though! Now THAT should be released as a single. I love the weird little parodies they made, too, like "Footy Footy Footy" with that funny map of the British Isles or "Santa Santa Santa" with that bizarro part "OHHHH IT'S A CHRIST!" that makes me halfway believe in God!

Beverly Hills Cop. Not to be confused with Dirty Dingus Magee.

If you read very closely you will notice that what you just posted doesn't contradict what I posted.

Hamsterdance is a speeded up sample of "Whistle Stop", by Roger Miller, as featured in Disney's Robin Hood.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Isn't that just the Robin Hood Disney song sped up?

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

I don't read too good.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Track down "Bad Base" by B.T.B. and listen to the first ten seconds. The sample used there is the same sample that is the foundation of the Hamster Dance song (which may well be the Robin Hood song, I don't know).

The Roger Miller sample was confirmed for me by one of the guys who produced Hamsterdance (I actually know him really well - he'll only admit to the deed if pressed!). I wasn't aware of another track using the same sample.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

I've actually heard and seen it another old Disney film, though. Some bear creature was going, "Bop-a-dee bop-a-diddy-doh-doe, dee-bop blah blah blah" in the voice of a bumbling bumpkin and it definitely wasn't Robin Hood. Perhaps it was a a self-referencing homage?

Ian Riese-Moraine: a casualty of social estrangement. (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

That was probably The Jungle Book and it was probably an example of this obscure musical form called "scatting".

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

I have heard of this scatting. It is related to the jazzing is it not.
