They are both on the Christian charts in Billboard right now! Who are they? Are they rivals? Is either one better than the other? Tell me!

last week zoegirl were and/or was at #23 (after 18 weeks) on the top christian albums chart and barlowgirl were and/or was at #31 (after 63 weeks!) i believe barlowgirl are a three-girl group actually. no idea (yet) about zoegirl. also, something called "superchick[k]" was at #30, after 16 weeks; not sure if that is relevant here or not.

I haven't heard any of them. However, the Mark Allan Powell "Encyclopedia of CCM" says Superchick "calls themselves a 'pop-punk, hip-hop, disco-funk garage band,' but there is little funk and no punk in their sound. Actually, there isn't much hip-hop or disco either." And one of the songs on their debut album was called "Barlowe Girls"!

As for Zoe Girl, they're apparently "a new millennium girl group similar to Aurora, ShineMK, V*enna, and Whisper Loud." My goodness, there's a lot of 'em.

one month passes...
OK, this is weird (from the new *Billboard*):

"The Barlow sisters are well-known for their views on abstinence. Christian music fans first heard about the siblings in the song 'Barlow Girl,' by the band Superchick that was written about them and their values. They make no bones about the fact that not only do they not believe in sex before marriage, they do not even believe in one-on-one dating."

So the way I'm reading this, Barlow Girl were apparently actually the *subject* of a hit song before they put a song of their own on the charts! Has that ever happened before, on *any* pop chart, anywhere? And now I'm wondering what exactly the song said, too....

Too bad Barlow Girl has nothing to do with Tracy Barlow.

We met these sisters Barlow's their last name
Ordinary girls they don't live in the fast lane
They don't rate with the guys that score
Cause they don't flaunt what the boys want more
They don't date they won't date
They wanna see how they're gonna grow up
Who they're gonna be
But in the meantime they might feel unloved
When all the girls around them are hooking up
But I know for sure it's never popular to be pure
And while some guys might be passing them by
I think they've caught someone's eye
(CHORUS)
All the boys in the band want a valentine from a Barlow Girl
Boys think they're the bomb
Cause they remind them of their mom
Everyone needs to be loved
Everyone needs their own teenage fan club
Any attention can feel like a good thing
Dress to impress can be oh so tempting
You can get noticed with your body
Sexual hypnosis by being hottie
You might feel like public property
You might you might you shouldn't be
No girl should feel she has to trade
Her body for love or be an old maid
And yes there are guys who are willing to wait
Ask a Barlow girl on her wedding day

!!

Yeah, but Frankee wasn't mentioned by name, was she? (Roxanne Roxanne was before either Shante or Real Roxanne hit the charts, but it probably wasn't the same person per se.)
