Are you a member of The Album Club? Is there a comparable US service? Is it worthwhile? or only for the truly lazy?

Here is how the site describes its service:

For many, discovering the finest new music can be a frustrating task. High-street stores lack personal service, while specialist music stores may seem too intimidating. Often it is simply a matter of time: family and work commitments take precedence over hours studying magazine reviews or browsing the aisles.

Our unique service combines the expertise and guidance available at Rough Trade, the renowned specialist store, with the convenience and accessibility of the internet.

With a selection of albums handpicked every month for each member, the Album Club enables anyone living in the EU or EEA with a passion for music to conveniently discover the finest new releases - without even having to leave the house.

Spend more time listening to great music and less time having to find it. Become a member of The Album Club.

A revolution in music retail, this new service offers the authoritative expertise of one of the world's leading record stores, conveniently providing the individual with a bespoke selection of fine albums to suit musical taste and listening preference.

Please take a few moments to discover our heritage, the wider context of our service, how it works and of course, how you become a member.

Only the very best,

The Album Club

Roughly $26 per album! Yikes! And that's after the $55+ dollar membership fee!

Looks like the "US equivalent" is Pitchfork+Stylus-$55 fee. Do people really need the Bright Eyes handpicked for them?

Welcome to the costs of buying records in this country, though to be fair to Rough Trade this probably reflects their adventurous stocking policy.
