Neil Young question/favor

Hey, I've been on a pretty deep Young binge for the past few months and while I've yet to completely exhaust his catalogue, I've begun to itch for something new. It seems as though Time Fades Away would be ideal but its out of print and i don't have a file-sharing service. If there is any way that someone could YSI that album as MP3 or Zip file it would be deeply appreciated and I can happily hit them back with Chrome Dreams or any of his officially released albums. Also if anyone has any other unreleased Young, I'm all ears.

I can tape you my vinyl copy of Time Fades Away... uh...

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 1 August 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

I have it on LP too. Bought it for $1.

I will try my best to get some mp3's later

if all else fails, you can get it through this site

http://www.gemm.com/

for $30. it's one of his best records. "don't be denied," the title track, "journey thru the past," and "the bridge" are some of his best songs. they hold their own with the other highlights of the "doom trilogy."

he says it's his least favorite of his albums because so much bad shit was going down during that tour. i can't wait till this gets a proper digitally mastered release. as it is the cd burns off old vinyl i've heard all have a vintage charm that complements the ramshackle performances

oh yeah, I really like this album, its def. of a piece with Tonight's the Night and On the Beach. "Yonder Stands the Sinner" - so great.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 1 August 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

this is a great album indeed, but the production is pretty bad I've never had a good copy - for years had tapes and then finally got a vinyl copy and still sounds bad. However, "Don't Be Denied" and "L.A." plus others- such incredible songs. Did this ever get released to cd? I thought it did but unlike On the Beach, seems you can't find it anywhere.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 1 August 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

yeah - L.A.!
"city in the smooooog/don'tcha wish that you could be here too..."

I'm gonna listen to this when I get home.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 1 August 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

its a wonder. now i want to recite all the lyrics. but i'll just settle for "CRACKS IN THE EARTH!" do do doo doooo do do.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 1 August 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

he also says such wondrous things as:

"L.A.
uptight."

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 1 August 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

I could never decide if that last line is "will I finally be HURT by you" or "finally be HEARD by you". works so well both ways.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 1 August 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

should i post the whole thing? (b/c i'm dying to... but i'm not sure if that will ruin it for someone who's never heard *him* sing it). like how he says L.A. as a question. and uptight as the answer or resolution or just fact. see, i'm ruining it.

hmmm. but, i think its "heard".

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Monday, 1 August 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

He also says such wonderous things as:

No no no. No no no. No no no.

Then he gets the crowd singing along...No no no...no no no.

Hey, thank you so much for sending me the album! You've made my month already and it is still the first day. If you or anybody else needs chrome dreams or any of Young's other stuff, let me know and ill try to figure out how to post it for ya. Thanks again, you've done me a great favor.

Awesome, thanks La Monte.

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

You;ve probably tracked it down already, but I'm partial to Trans myself ... there's general disagreement about that record ... I love it, others hate it.

Chris O, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

TFA is one of my very favorite of his albums, you will love it.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 01:28 (twenty years ago)

I used to have TFA, but it went in The First Big Vinyl Putsch. Glad to have it back... it's even better than I remembered.

Truckdrivin' Buddha (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

xpost - thk u!

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Also love Trans.

M. V. (M.V.), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

the new record's crap. part of his new 'deal' is putting out a solo record by wife Pegi, who is all over Prairie Wind like a Bad Gas.

chromed, but no longer dreaming, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:21 (twenty years ago)

no no no
no no no
no no no
no no no
no no n

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

The lyric sheet says it's "heard".
I fucking love this record, but I love Trans even more. I wish he'd gone even furthur down that path instead of releasing Everybody's Rockin'.
How are Pegi's vocals, didn't she sing backup with him before or am I imagining it?

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

Techno Neil wasn't too bad. "Pressure," found on Landing On Water is pretty good.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

i think she's sung with him before -almost sure of it. but i don't know if she's ever arranged stuff. hopefully its 100% neil in that case. God, I'm not sure if i've heard Trans. I lost a bunch of his stuff at one point.

now that Aaron's got TFA, here are the LA lyrics.
They're pretty good, but its mostly how he sings them. the jump in his voice at the get-go and then the float out. he may have been depressed, but there is a lot of perfect energy floating around on this album.

L.A. - Neil Young
In a matter of time,
There'll be a friend of mine
Gonna come to the coast,
You're gonna see him
Up close for a minute or two
While the ground cracks under you.

By the look in your eyes
You'd think that it was a surprise
But you seem to forget
Something somebody said
About the bubbles in the sea
And an ocean full of trees.

And you now, L.A.
Uptight,
city in the smog,
city in the smog.
Don't you wish that
you could be here too?
Don't you wish that
you could be here too?
Don't you wish that
you could be here too?

Well, it's hard to believe
So you get up to leave
And you laugh at the door
That you heard it all before
Oh it's so good to know
That it's all just a show for you.

But when the suppers are planned
And the freeways are crammed
And the mountains erupt
And the valley is sucked
Into cracks in the earth
Will I finally be heard by you.

L.A.
Uptight,
city in the smog,
city in the smog.
Don't you wish that
you could be here too?
Don't you wish that
you could be here too?
Don't you wish that
you could be here too?
