doomie x, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:23 (twenty years ago)

This is only £14.99 in HMV. Are they as good as the Buttholes used to be?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

its like butthole surfers crossed with flipper/happy flowers. buy it! its like four cds and a dvd! it totally fits in with that new resurgence of 88 ACID PUNK like the buttholes, happy flowers, flipper ...

doomie x, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

have you heard magic markers marcello?

doomie x, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:39 (twenty years ago)

Just checked their website; looks good. Non-improvised improv no wave. I can appreciate that. I Trust My Guitar appears to be the record to get.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

its like the new new new velvet underground. it is madness. i just interviewed pete. he did an improvised interview! amazing!

doomie x, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

excellent! i could do with a resurgence of '88 acid punk right now! it would be nice to have the flipper back catalogue out on cd again.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i know what you mean. i think acid punk is the new wyrd folk!

doomie x, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:50 (twenty years ago)

its so awesome all this music i feel like i am reliving my fourteen-year-old self!

doomie x, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Disc one and four are awesome.

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

You were a cool fourteen-year-old, dog. I was like into air supply and shit.

p.j. (Henry), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

a great product. one problem: while i enjoy it, i feel that now that i have it i will never need more Bunnybrains product EVER.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

"shut that noise down!"

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

This actually sounds kind of tempting. I might look in hmv on the way home tonight.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

a total treat. the singles release on menlopark is a little more bite-sized for those new to bb. altho, that dvd in the box is ... pretty unforgettable.
m.

msp (mspa), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

norman, go for it -- its like freaking four disks of discordant folk noise. plus a dvd. its sort of awesome in a weird way. like going through the buttholes back catalogue all in one go.

try the load records dvd that is FRIGGIN' MENTAL. pure ACID PUNK. i felt sort of sick after going through it.

doomie x, Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

"plus a dvd"

PLUS, Norman, you get to see me on all fours dressed as a witch on-stage at a Philly show AND you get to hear my solo-track "Bring Me The Head Of Trent Reznor (Chuck Eddy Mix)" on the dvd as well! How can you lose???? Don't answer that.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Sold. (if they have a copy, of course)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

If you guys like this stuff, there's a whole lot of bands that are similar (granted, nothing can be EXACTLY the same as Bunnybrains.. NOTHING!)... but there are a lot of, for lack of a better term, spontaneous discordant rock bands that would appeal to fans of the BBrains... Gang Wizard (L.A./Portland), The Taken Girls (Portland), a whole lot of stuff that was released on Black Bean & Placenta that wasn't on the ultra-twee half of its catalog... etc. In fact, Portland rules this type of music.. on the prettier side, there is Bügsküll and Hochenkeit.. on the uglier more noisy side, there's Noggin (from Bellingham, WA) and Pork Queen (from Vancouver BC).

This isn't all new stuff, mind you. All these bands have been around since the mid 90s at the latest...(except maybe the Taken Girls)

donut ferry (donut), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

Tape Mountain to thread!!!

donut ferry (donut), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:16 (twenty years ago)

the new Bunny Brains 3cdr thing on Freaks end Future/Audiobot, Total Mayhem Live, is quite good -- a good sloppy bunny brain time to be had with good recordings of the live action.

Captain Fumio Nakahira (Grodd), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

The first time I met Dan he gave me a big hug. He was earing a dress and he smelled kinda bad.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

jaxon: tusk is no rumors!

i want those swell maps. and the bunnybrains. how is the bunnybrains? i almost got a cheo feliciano record today, but i didn't have time to listen to it.. maybe later.

-- Ian John50n (dr.carl.saga... ), October 20th, 2004.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

i'm only on disc one of four so far... and not even including the
dvd there. so i'm early. some of it's more spacy than the tiny
smatter of bunnybrains i remember from days of yore. great tho.
seriously, for $16 or so, this is a STEAL... it's like a gift from
furry heaven. unhinged and still running.

"shut that music down, if you call it music. beep."

realizing it. the clerk was all asking me about it cause he knew
nothing. he's one of those types that knows volumes about steve
earle but yet seemed to have no clue about other regions... he
didn't know the swell maps either...

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

They didn't have the set in at hmv or spin, so I bought the last 3 vdg(g) reissues insted. I ordered a copy from spin, though.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 4 August 2005 11:07 (twenty years ago)

i am traumatised by the dvd, i must say.

doomie x, Thursday, 4 August 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

I just bought this, and it's kicking the shit out of my ass (in a good way) as we speak. "Model Bitch (Runway Version)" is one of the best things i have ever heard...ever.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Friday, 5 August 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
I wonder if this is still available in HMV. Not sure if Enfield HMV will stock it!

Just listening to Disk 1 at the moment (from Slsk). You Don't Know is an amazing song.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 09:01 (twenty years ago)

I couldn't find it at all in London - had to order it specially from Rough Trade. But it's worth it!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 09:03 (twenty years ago)

Poop. I thought it was a bit odd you said HMV were stocking it! Ah well, I'll try Amazon I suppose. I don't trust ordering from Rough Trade, heard too many tales of uselessness.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 09:05 (twenty years ago)

I never thought I'd see this on sale down here, but there it was at missing link, and only $35aus! I will acquire it as my holiday listening, I think.

deaf leopard (haitch), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

London Selectadisc had it for 13.99 a couple of weeks ago.

Wandering Boy Poet, Tuesday, 13 September 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

two years pass...

I just saw this used for $9 and seriously contemplated buying it, but then had to leave the store due to a temporary emergency that needed fixing. Should I go back?

Reatards Unite, Wednesday, 18 June 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

temporary emergency that needed fixing

bunnybrains are known to cause spontaneous waste excretion, yes?
