Jamming the s/t for the first time in years (probably since it came out), and man, what an underrated band! "Piss Diary," "Cross Your Eyes," etc. And not to damn with faint praise but "Hawaii in Ten Seconds" predicts the cavernous reverb sounds of Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket, Band Of Jackasses, etc (but does it much, much, much, much, much better). Ahead of their time, for sure, if this came out now everyone would be all 'omg best new music' etc. Never heard any of their later albums, sorta scared to...
What happened to these dudes?

Well.. They've got a new album called "Bronze age" coming out in March, if anyone's interested. One track's been released and it's good fast Manx. So I'm looking forward to it anyway. Love 'em love 'em.
As for the debut, I was playing it yesterday and thought the same thing about "Hawaii in ten seconds" being a precursor to the Fleet Foxes sound.

that's cool, this band was/is pretty good! precursor to fleet foxes sound i dunno, but i liked the couple albums i've heard by them.

It was really only that one song that foretold Fleet Foxes - the highly reverbed massed harmonies. Their debut seems to try a number of styles on for size and not all of them work perfectly, but the second album settles onto a more consistent style which they have developed since then.

First album rules and feels like one of those complete aesthetic experiences that can't be repeated (and probably doesn't need repeating).
(It also still isn't on Spotify.)

howard greynolds is a dude! maybe aesthetic completion but i don't know, there's tons of good stuff on subsequent albums, still though yes this is sorta "la femme d'argent" to the debut's moon safari

i liked this band's name more than their output at the time, but I should revisit it now
