Apparently put together by Steve Barrow (I guess it's an impossible to find record with a slew of bonus tracks on CD.) For some reason I think I might have read about this in a previous month's Wire and completely spaced it. Anyway looks great.

1. Richard Hall - Dirty Harry
2. Glen Brown, Richie McDonald - Realise
3. Realise Version
4. Bobby Ellis, Tommy McCook, Richard Hall - Determination Skank
5. Glen Brown - Tel Aviv Drums
6. The Winner
7. Sunshine Showdown
8. I Roy - Rasta On Sunday
9. Prince Jazzbo - Mr. Harry Skank
10. Roman Stewart - Never Too Young To Learn
11. Big Youth - Opportunity Rock
12. Big Youth - Dubble Attack
13. Glen Brown - Take A Step
14. Gregory Isaacs - One One Cocoa
15. Glen Brown - Crisp As A Ball
16. Glen Brown - Save Our Nation
17. Glen Brown - Away With The Bad

And Alex, it is great. Hot Pot is a joint venture between Steve and two guys, at least one of whom is from Cooking Vinyl. I strongly urge you to check out their other release, Ossie Hibbert & the Revolutionaries' "Earthquake Dub" - best dub album ever, in my opinion and for far too long overdue on CD. The CD's got bonus tracks as well.
Shaping up to be a great label.

i saw Earthquake Dub in the store yesterday and almost bought it. best ever, you say? that's a bold claim, but it's tempting me to go back and get it.

is Steve Barrow still doing Blood and Fire or was that dropped for this?

ghetty green (eman), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

bump

i hear that Blood and Fire is no more.

Beta (abeta), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Blood And Fire still going - bunch of titles on the way in the next six months. Steve's still doing it too, but he's doing this as well (plus a third label, Microphonic, that hasn't released anything yet and will be strictly deejay music).

I really believe "Earthquake Dub" to be the best dub album ever, especially if you like similar stuff such as the "African Dub Almighty Series."

that's good to hear, i like what steve barrow has done for this music.

so i went and bought "earthquake dub." it is really good but not the best imo. maybe after more listening. the bass is mixed really well, loud! now i'm curious about the glen brown one. i know b+f did his 'termination dub' awhile back.

has anyone heard the "bunny striker lee story" box set? i saw it for kinda cheap, and it's like 4 cds! not sure if i need all that but his productions are some of my favorites.

i'm glad to hear that B&F will be back. almost everything they do is a no-brainer. i was also glad to hear the recent Auralux stuff. that Niney comp "Sufferation" is potent.

this "earthquake dub" disc makes me happy

Earthquake dub CD (re-release of Earthquake An Event, LP which copped the FULL title of the Hollywood movie) is far from the best ever, but its an excellent example of it's kind.... and yes, everythign Blood and Fire put out is a no-brainer to get. IMHO, anyway...

one month passes...
So I picked up this (it's good, although some of the vocals are less than essential) and Earthquake Dub (which I haven't listened to yet) and the excellent Niney Auralux comp. Is the new Blood & Fire Willie Williams essential? I swear I've never even heard of it's existence. This stuff comes out of the woodwork every other month.

Alex/Dee, have you heard "Leggo Dub" on Hot Pot yet????? Its fucking DOOOPE. also found that killer Tubby/Soul Syndicate cd on Blood and Fire

have to say I've listened to both Glen Browns on Hot Pot and not really feeling them at all. Termination Dub is the Glen Brown to go with I think.

Leggo Dub is the new Ossie All Stars rerelease btw

BUMP

Actually the Sylford Walker album is the Glen Brown to go with (although the Welton Irie part of the B&F reissue is just okay.) There's plenty of good stuff on the Hot Pot Glen Brown collection, but there's also some eh tracks that I'm guessing only completist really care about.

I'm curious about the other Ossie Hibbert thing, although Earthquake Dub is good, but not anywhere close to teh best dub record ever (note: I like the Gibb's African Dub series a lot, probably more than Hibbert record, but don't think his stuff in general close to the best Tubby, Hudson, etc.)

I assume the King Tubby/Soul Syndicate thing is the Freedom Sounds collection. That's excellent. There are so many great Tubby collections.

i think the new one is way better than Earthquake Dub. a bunch of the album tracks are dubs of songs from "Mr Isaacs" and theres a dub of Horace Andy's "I'm Alright". lots of off the wall sound effects throughout, dogs barking, telephone, train whistle, birds plus nutty percussion all over the place. Martin Denny in dub?? and the six bonus tracks are great too.

yeah Freedom Sounds is the one. i still have never heard any of the African Dubs or Tubby/Mudies, i need to get on that shit.

i've heard that Walker/Irie thing and remember thinking the toasting was the weak point

The African Dubs are exactly like what you are describing Leggo Dub as. On the later ones the effects can almost get a little wearying actually. All four records were re-released on two CDs which are well worth owning.
