first verse indeed fire(same old shit only in Nas-speak, so yeah, fire) but it tails off pretty quick. The beat is kind of tired too.
Verdict: does not destroy anyone.

He mentioned he had a new dis track at the show on Saturday, which was the shit btw.

It may not destroy anyone, but I can't imagine Fifty retorting with anything stronger with his bumbling lisp of a flow. He'd just keep saying something about his stick and using the same old rote rhymes.

matt2 (matt2), Wednesday, 3 August 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

but that's just it, in a "Nas -50" battle, Nas isn't battling 50, he's battling expectations that Nas should utterly destroy 50, and he doesn't here. Not that he's trying to(he copping the patronizing big brother stance, for now) but it comes down to the old saw about "arguing with a fool", I'm just saying.

I see what you're saying. It's an absurd battle to begin with. I guess 50 wants no friends whatsoever. I wonder how all his beefs affect his relationships with Em (who I think worships Nas) and Dre (who is like a friendly older grandpa making beats for everyone).

Also there is a much better rip here: http://scenestars.net/2005/07/nas-dont-body-ya-self.php

I mean, on the one hand, I can imagine older-wiser Nas doesn't really want to crank the heat up so much that he winds up on the defensive all the time, but if he'd've built on that first verse this might've been the first really great dis track since I don't know when.

Nasty Nas coming correct. On the first verse, at least...

The John Legend sample is hot, too.

Lame comes to mind...

seems like more of a diss to lake than fitty. 50 gets taken out in the third verse almost as an afterthought. and yeah, he doesn't destroy 50, but he doesn't really need to. piggy bank was more of a gimmick than a diss.

i thought this was called "don't body yourself"? and...blue fog? i don't get it.

I guess "blue fog" = ether?

I wonder if he realizes how true the line "I am DeNiro after Amex commercials and the Fockers" is.

"I guess "blue fog" = ether? "

Ohhh...I guess that you can never underestimate Nas' knack for self-referential subminals.

And yeah Al, your Deniro line is funny. But Nas (to his critics) is more like Spike Lee (to his critics): needlessly confrontational, socially irrelvant, aesthetically obsolete, and a nice whipping boy for pedentic self-righousness. Not that I agree with any of that.

first verse ill my home-body. wanna go smoke a 40oz wit a nigga?

can't imagine him "destroying" anyone with it thogh.

especially 50 cent who has a bumbling lisp of a flow.

ilm rap fag, Friday, 5 August 2005 02:52 (twenty years ago)

nas destroyed him just a lil bit.

006 (thoia), Friday, 5 August 2005 03:50 (twenty years ago)

sometimes i agree to. but i grew up with nas, and i try not to fall into the trap of listening to hip hop as nostalgia, but nas still says shit that leaves me like...damn. not as often, but sometimes. and i'll rep nas over 50 99 out of 100 times.

btw, thanks for the dayton family recommendation.

four months pass...
Nas is straight up the beat rapper alive Nas, Jadakiss,AZ,Eminem and Styles P. But, when it gets down to it I think Nas will lyrically take off 50's steroids off his body. In his career his has been known for his literacy in his music and he hands down has had the best classic called Illmatic and remember he only had 10 tracks which were well spoken in firey tone of lyricism. He is better than 50 Cent this is 50's way of getting money and adding everybody he sees through his muscular steroided eyesin his label,he is mo richer than Nas but is way to shit lyrically.Nas is a lyricist and just fucked 50 with knowledge even though he dropped out of koolie high, and 50 did not go at Nas he bitched aND went to KELIS.Lyricism goes to Nas, money goes to 50, and when it comes to it Nas is better than 50. thats like trying to say Juvenile is better than Pac. so end this and everybody should be on my side and say Nas is Better be realistic and tell the truth (Nas is Like half Man Half Amazin No doubt)
