Very old hillbilly country/folk song. The only lyrics that I know are, "Cavortin' prancin' son-of-a-gun..." and "I'm a cowboy from the western plains / I hate city streets and I hate city trains / Yodel-ayee-ayee-odelay-eeoooooooooooooooo." It's played on the radio during scene four of the Three Stooges short Nutty But Nice, which was made in 1940, so I assume it dates from around that time. Please help!!

My guess is a Jimmy Rodgers song.

Or maybe Jimi Rodgers...

Then again, Jimmie liked the railroad, so nevermind.

In all likelihood, it was a song made up specifically for the Three Stooges short and not available elsewhere. I've got about 500 CDs of early country from that period or before and it doesn't ring a bell with me.

Definitely not Jimmie Rodgers. I agree with Dee.

Not Jimmie Rodgers? Are you sure? I downloaded a couple Jimmie Rodgers tracks and though I haven't yet found the exact song, they do sound remarkably similar to what I'm looking for.

I'm telling you, it's either JIMY Rodgers or JIMI Rodgers, but clearly, not JIMMIE Rodgers.

Put yer Jimi hats on people!

I remember the song on the Stooges short that you're referring to, and it's not Rodgers singing it. It's possible that he may have sung it at one time or another, but that's just not his voice.

I have that Jimmie Rodgers complete recorded works thing on Bear Family, and believe me, it ain't there.
